One more thing I would like to point out is what it takes to get a VW motor to make the Numbers a stock WC motor does every day of the week with ZERO Mods.

Larry words are:
"They are not a $500 alternative to a $6-$10K big AC VW like some like to claim. Thats the only problem I have with WC. It aint the motors that bother me, some WC have some very good characteristics, its the owners tellin newbies how junky AC VW is when they aint never had an AC VW built right for the woods."

Simply put if I put the kind of money into a Subie 2.5 you guys are putting into your AC 2500s there is absolutly no way you could compete period!
There are many NA 2.5 Subies out there pushing close to twice the HP and Torque you can get out of your AC 2500. They are just not seen much in the offroad arena other than Racing in the desert.

Prove it! :!: There is no way in hell a 2.5 subie will out do a VW. If it does it is a fluke  or there were not any good VW motors there :!: . We prove it at every hill climb.

Is Clayton running a conventional buggy?

Besides, its a $15,000+ subie. Like I said, you gotta put big bux in WC 4 cyl to make it run good up REAL hills, just like you have to with AC VW. They both take money to make 'em work WELL (key word being "well", it has different meanings to different folks) in the woods.

Ody, the numbers you are reading in "Suby Lover's Monthly" mean jack on the back of a hillclimbing buggy. I used to be the same always reading stuff and comparing dyno numbers yada yada "this motor makes this, that motor makes that"...blah blah blah. Dont mean NOTHING in the real world of hillclimbing. You missed a perfect opportunity at Wheelers to prove us wrong! I dont think there has been any 2500 2nd gear SS KYbuggies at Wellsville. At least not that I've heard. Hell, from what I heard it didnt even take 2500s to come up there and show the wc's whats up. Willie and Pipedope did it with 2387s!! I'd love to come up there sometime and give you the chance to ride in one if you'd give your honest opinion. Hope I can afford it sometime. I've rode or drove many many kinds and setups of buggy out there, and there is nothing like a 1300lb 2500 2nd gear (except maybe a 1200 lb 2633 2nd gear  ). If there was something more fun to drive, I'd sell mine in a heartbeat and do all I could to get it, but I havent been in anything that is more fun ...yet.

Just admit no subi conventional buggy will EVER consistently out climb a 2500 vw , and tell newbies that if they wanna climb they need AC VW , and I'll leave it alone.

Hmmm! I think the operative phase is 1300# Buggy! How many of the Subie Buggys you have seen weigh in at 1300#. I don't know of any. Of cource I realyy have not looked because of lack of Interest in Hill Climbing I suppose. I am looking at mine at 2440# with out driver. The only thing I will admit is the power to weight ratio is not even close. it would seem to me that a hopped up 2.5 Subie in a 1300# Buggy would do quite well and be plenty competition for any 1300# VW Buggy. Besides all i am doing is rattling your cage anyways. I realy don't care lol. :P

Well of course! :P We both like arguing about this or else we wouldn't keep doing it. I dont care what YOU wanna run, but dont like one sided advice to new people that trashes AC. I need my buggy shop to do well so they will stay open for a long time.

And for arguements sake, NO a 2.5 suby on a light buggy built for climbing will not hang with a 2500 VW. One of the best tried it for a long while , then had a light 4x4 built to work with the motor. The 4x4 suby is awesome, but when the motor was on his buggy it just didnt work for the extreme climbing he likes, no matter what he tried to do with the suspension, gearing, etc.

2.5 Suby, And it would not be a bank for your buck. With a cost of over $15,000.00 for just the motor, then had to put NOS on it just so it would keep up, + a few upgrades so it is now probably a $18,000.00 to $20,000.00 motor .   It is a very good running motor now and a top contender, and Clayton is one of the best drivers out there. But I would guess he has more in his motor than most have in their whole buggy. So Nitro is it a bang for your buck motor???
