I have dual baby delortos on it now and I'm getting tired of screwing the carbs and the way my cage is set up I have knocked off the air cleaners in the woods. I'm looking for idea's on what carb to get . I would probley trade the dual for a good carb setup????

i would post a wtb add for that carb and see what you can come up with would save you alot of money if you can find a used rebuildable or a running one !

if u allready got the carb use it,,one of the baby dells on a stock intake,i think u can make one work on a stock intake

What size is to big I have seen 40's in a single set up and are the empi carbs any good??? Just trying to get all my dicks in a row before I buy one THANKS for all the info

Rule of thumb for selecting the right carb(s) for your motor. Smaller Venturi = better low end torque while sacrificing top end. Larger venturi = higher top end while sacrificing low end torque. Your 1600 does not have a high top end to begin so low end torque is what you should be looking for, ie; smaller carb(s).

I was just thinking cause my brother had a bigger delorto (38 or 40)on his buggy and all he ahd done to it was 87?? pistons and a cam and it ran good

u can put a 40 or 44 weber,dont get empi heard about to many problems,but when u put a weber on it be ready for somebody to jet it for you,it could be a pain in the ass,and it could run good the first time

Are the jets hard to get too in a webber carb??? Or are they hard to get jets for??

there not hard to get to,there not hard to get,,,,get a single weberto run the way it suppose to is not easy

Does any body make a adapter or intake manifold that will let me use a automotive/holley 2 barrel carb on a vw ???? I have seen the 4 barrel manifolds but no 2barrel ones???

You can use a 4-barrel manifold, most 4-barrel carbs will bolt on where the 2 barrel ones go on, its just the difference on the v-8 manifolds, some got 2 holes, some got four holes, and some got one big hole and that's what the fourplay is like. I started out with the fourplay manifold and 2-barrel 550 holley and it runs great, but no good off-road, I could never get the thing to quit flooding out no matter what....so I switched to 4-barrel, still the same problem, just more power on level ground.

Re-jetting Weber carbs is fairly easy......it just takes time and patience. The Jets are easy to find for these webers.

Nope, if the carb that you want to run will not work on the 4-play, I bought a Holley 550 2 barrel and it bolted right on the 4-play manifold and the carb that you have, I dunno. Johnny's four-play does not have a website, I don't have a phone number for the place though.

The stock carb is one of the best carbs for a stock 1600. Adding dual carbs to a stock 1600 adds a whopping 5 hp while 10% it is not much gain for the money spent. Splitting the case and adding an Engle VZ 14 cam, along with a single Zenith or Weber will really wake it up. Some porting will help but is not needed. I've never tried a Holley Off road two barrel carb but it should work, the only disadvantage I can think of is not being able to change venturi size. Down the road a 76x90.5 (1955) with a VZ 14 cam, heads like Tims Stage Two heads and a single 40 Weber makes a killer bullet proof small engine. Same engine in 69x94 also runs great and is easier to build. http://www.aircooled.net has a good Weber IDF carburator tech section.
