What does everyone like as far as wheel base goes? I am new to buggies and figure longer is better to an extent but I don't want to assume anything. I am looking for a frame to start off in and have found a couple shorter rails around but figured I may want to stick to a longer one. I am trying to get an idea on frame and motor and trans combos for something to start off in. There is a buggy in the for sale section that a few have said was a good deal and I am looking at it pretty strong but was curoius about motor size and trans in stock form or better to regear. I guess it all matter on tire size etc. but I was trying to get an idea of a set up. Maybe a 1915, 3-6 rib and 35's? Just throwing something out there to get some ideas.

i run a 96" wheelbase ( warrior frame with beefed up stock trailing arms) My motor is a 1915 and i run a stock 5 rib, i love the gearing in it. Right now i am running 31 x 12.5 x 15 v bars. -- It seems to work very well together.

I have a 1835, 3 rib, and 31 15.5 15 ditch diggers. My buggy is 116" 4seater. I was running a 1915 and a 6 rib. I do beleive that i would like a taller tire with the 3 rib.

2332cc with 6rib. 101 wheelbase (with 2x3 arms). 31 firestones.

If you are going to run the 1915 with 35's I would stick to the 3rib. When you get into regearing the transaxles it can get a bit pricey. The 3rib won't take as much motor to turn those 35's.

Thanks for the info. I was just throwing the 35's out there for an example. The firestones and all must do very well, I see a lot of buggies on here that run them. I don't want to start getting a bunch of stuff and none of it work together. I don't want to hit a hill and it bog from not enough motor for the tires or the other way around. LOL

1915 with firestones and a 3rib would do very well. get ya some 2x3 arms and setup the suspension correctly and your ready to rock.

102" w.b. with 31" bar trads. was runnin a 1641 and have had a 1915 in for awhile. will pull the wheels up if i try but stay down if i dnt

Not "Firestones and all", only firestones as far as v treads go, IMO.
Cut boggers or cut 23 degree firestones both work very well. PLEASE dont waste your money on any v-tread besides a cut 23 degree Firestone 4 or 8 ply if you plan on riding rough stuff at all. They are both pricey, but , like Roy says , buy the best and cry only once.

If you plan going with a taller tire than 31", and not a big motor to turn them, Kyle is right about the three rib gearing working well. But they are weaker and the big tires ( bigger than 31") are even harder on them. Its not a matter of if it will break, but when.

The wheel base you are wanting will depend on where and how you plan to ride. Shorter is easier to maneuver thru tight stuff, but more likely to lift too much when climbing, unless you run some kinda custom long arm. (Longer than the standard 2x3 or 3x3). Get the rear arms too long, and you loose traction, especially the lighter the buggy is. Mine is about 100" w/ 2x3's and 1x2's up front.

Yeah, I was leaning toward the boggers when I first started looking at buggies and stuff but I knew they where heavy and I didn't want to put too much tire and not enough motor on them. I didn't relize there where that many differnet v-tread tires out there glad you mentioned it. I have been looking at some in the 100" wheel base range or close to it. I hope to have something before long and then will have a ton more questions I am sure.

My buggy is a 98" frame but with the extended arms it comes out to about 100". Nice all around length for general use.

Mine started life as a 92" Berrien with 5" added in front of the torsion moving just the engine/trans and wheels back. I'm running beefed stock trailing arms but going to 2X3 arms this winter. SOooo... right now I am 97" but next spring will be at 100" without being any longer overall than the day it was built.
