I've been kicking around the idea of building a new buggy and have pretty much decided to go with a Beeline Cobra but its hard to decide on something like this when I've not had opportunity to drive or ride in a Cobra. No one around here close has one that I know of so I'm having to base my decision merely on what I've read and heard others say about them. what I wanna know from some of you that own or have owned a beeline is how well they drive & handle on the trail. I know a lot of how it handles will depend on what suspension/motor/tranny etc is installed but I want a general opinion on them. Plan on taking pretty much all the stuff on my current buggy and put on the beeline. So as of now (but subject to change) the beeline would be airbagged rear, KP front, 1641 with IDF 40, 5 rib. Odds are a 1915 will take place of the little 1641 whenever swapping it over. I'm leaning towards going ahead and buying a double head bar tacked frame without them installing the torsion. What's the best route to take when buying a frame? Since this would be my first build "from the ground up" I think I'll pay a little extra to have them tack it together so I can be sure everything is in place like it should be. Any and all suggesions or opinions will be greatly appreciated guys

I've not read or heard anything bad about the cobra and everyone seems to love em. Darrell did you buy yours as a knockdown, tacked or welded? The price difference between the tacked double head bar w/o torsion and the fully welded is around $182 by my calculation. I'm thinking by the time I spend all the time to weld myself plus materials (mig wire & gas) it's really not that much cheaper getting the tacked version. I'm leaning toward the fully welded frame with them welding torsion in as well. It'd be a good time to put X brace in rear and race brace for front before I going any further with the build, are those braces really needed? Or just some extra assurance in case of rollover? Just wandering if the frames are prone to getting bent in those spots. Also, the welded double head bar with torsion is 955.54 plus core ($200) according to their website. Are you required to provide a good functional torsion as a core or just torsion housing? I'm asking because the only torsion I've got to provide for a core has a broke torsion bar and has seen better days...

Bought my Cobra straight from Tony Beggly in 2004 and wouldn't take anything for it. Got it with torsion installed, fully welded, floor and roof tabs installed, trans mount, x-brace, race brace, roof brace, diamond plate aluminum floor and roof and probably more I can't think of. Setup with link pin front end 2x3 rear trailing arms, 5 rib, 33" cut boggers, 2110 with single 44. I think it drives and climbs great for how it's set up. So far no problems with the frame, just some beat up tree bars.

I bought mine welded and it not a knockdown,if your gonna get a beeline let them weld it they do a nice job.I don't have the double head bar but the roof is wide and yeah that is for rollover .I got mine with the torsion that way everything is ready to bolt on and if you tell them what trans your running they will even put mounts in .I added my own x-brace but if i had it to do all over i would let them do it .i got the race brace but if you got a bender you can add the x and race brace really easy .i did'nt have a core i don't remember the cost on the torsion by the time i got out of there i had a complete roller brand new.But the x -brace yeah it is needed if your gonna do ant kind of off road ridding, race brace i like it too.The frame is really strong been running mine hard for about 3 year now and i like it more every time i ride.

Only thing I would change is the angle of the windshield bar just a I'll bit for the solid roof but there great frames

Roughly how long does it take to get one built going directly thru Tony? Everyone says he does great work but kinda hard to get a hold of at times?? I wish the ones of you that have cobras were a lot closer! You know how difficult it is choosing without me actually having chance to see how welll they do.... :? I'm thinking when I do this, to go ahead and do the double head bar, race brace, x brace, floor/roof tabs, torsion & I'm still undecided on the tree bars. Trying to save a lil expense if possible, and I can make some tree bars. Not going to be beeline quality I'm sure but they'll end up getting beat to shit anyways in due time. I looked in to those custom torsions thru appletree and they're higher than I expected... Like I said it'll be airbagged so I really only need housing plus set of torsion eliminators. Darrell thats a F'n sweet cobra you've got! I love that setup

About what's it cost to get one powder coated or would I be better off spraying it with auto paint? Rattle can is pretty much out of the question this go-around since it's going to be new. I want it to look good for at least a lil while!

I noticed in the video that yours had it, figured that you just mis-understood. I emailed him with some questions so hoping to hear back pretty quick. If I don't hear anything back I'll try calling. If that doesn't work I guess I'll take off work a day and ride up there. And if that doesn't work I guess I'll continue to drive what I've got... :wink: I don't know how busy he his or how quick these frames are built so guess wait and see

oh I'm planning on going with a KP front, that's what I've got already so plan on staying that route. Front end in mine now is way past due for some TLC and would like to try and find another KP beam here local complete as possible to upgrade for the beeline. Still not heard anything back from him, I'd say its a busy time of year. How "mass produced" are these frames? Is he the only one that builds them or does he have others at shop that put em together too? I should have all the money to have frame built the way I'm wanting in 2 weeks or so if all goes well so I'm not too worried bout him not getting back with me just yet. On beelines site under chassis options, it lists 3 different bus mounts, front, upper, & rear. Front would be one welded to torsion housing, rear would be mounting plate that bolts to frame horns, & upper would be mount that bolts up using top bellhousing bolts correct?? Feel free to correct me cause it's hard to distinguish in the shitty picture on their site. Also Darrell is yours painted with an acryllic based auto paint? I was debating on tractor implement paint. Any input on what to use?? I can't swing powder coating the thing I'm sure and like I said rattle can is outta the question

Just ordered a brand new frame threw beeline about the same thing you wanted it's gonna be done in 2-weeks :D ordered it for a friend of mine $1540 that is with a few extra things we added. And yeah mine is painted with single stage acrylic enamel automotive paint .powder coating is almost just as cheap as paint just can't touch it up as easy .
