my main issue with my buggy over past few years has been limited wheel travel due to cv breakage. i am currently running 3x3 arms with bags and type 4 cv's. this gives me about 16 inches of wheel travel with about 2 degrees safety in the cv's. i know some of you have more travel with 930 joints. obviously chain drive will et you more travel too. being a fan of all things off road i wondered what the trophy truck guys were doing to get all that travel? so after a short search (gotta love the internet!) i found these : http://www.cornay.com/ . i am thinking about trying to see what i can come up with for an axle design using these. i have a friend that owns a custom driveline shop who is willing to lend a hand. any thoughts?

You could have something there.put them on a set of 280z axles might work.hmmm.Chad

If money is not problem the sky is the limit. I think with 3x3, there is no reason to go further than 930's. I can get nearly 20" of travel with 930's. There are some buggy specific "driveshafts" out there. Look at Bigscotts build.

Those joints are so long by themselves. you would end up with a very short axle with very steep angles.

Appletree makes 5x5 arms for standard VW stubs now. Those, 930's, and more backspace on the wheels would be same track with more travel. I think they want $1600 for whole kit with axles and shipping.

there def lots of options. 5x5 would put my centerline to far back. unloading the rear tires way to much! prob not building new buggy for atleast a year. when do want to try for like 25" of progressive travel. steep angles not a pob with these joints. some can go way past 30. i still have not found enough info on them though. cant find a dealer even remotely close to me

If you are worried about weight that is easy move the motor and tranny back.

I've had a call into them for a week now. No return calls. I see no reason something like that can't work for us. Other than expense, I would like to have 30 deg operational angle on my joints.

check out the driveshaftsuperstore.com they have a set of buggy axles that go 35 degrees built with spicer 1350 u joints pricey! but look pretty easy to make

You gain travel very quickly going to a wider wheel base, much faster than going longer. The trick is to get the longest axle in there you possibly can(by moving the stubs as far from the drive flanges as you can). I have 29" axles on the race buggy with 930 cvs and easily get 20" of wheel travel without the cv ever seeing over 22*.

They are a few guys here that take a 280z axle and cut them down and run them.they look awesome in a buggy IMO.I mean they look tough with those big axles.but I've seen a ujoint snap and the axle goes beating around.these are probably stronger and might not do that.but I feel safer with the cv.but for that price and just bolt them in with 35 degrees of angle,might be worth a try.wonder what's the weight difference?Chad

i have seen guys cut down fron drive shaft out of a toyota pickup too. but like was mentioned my big fear is if the do break then they beat around bashing everything in thier reach

I had 29" axles off road and half the trails I had to put 1 tire up in the bushes. Also the frame wanted to go lt or rt depending on which wheel was slippin or grippin.

Those wierd C/V's in the picture.It seems if you had more than 2 joints it would make the axle assembly want to wad up

I've tried all types of eccentric set ups.Unless you go chain drive, I'd go to Babychains or check out the new 14L"x3W" trailing arms on the new and improved Passat.But I understand, most of us just want to get something out of a box.The new wheelbase is 84w x 112L, using 22.5" 930 axles and inset Ford Thunderbird 15x10 aluminum rims on Thunderbird bearring housings and brakes.Sitting on the ground the front floor is 19" and the rear is 20".

Check out the shafts at driveshaftsuperstore.com I think I am gonna try a set on my next build they are just as cheap as 930's and axles. Oh yeah and they say 35 degrees too.

just talked to driveshaftsuperstore the web site pricing is wrong. apparently the site is for reference only.
old owner passed away. new owner does not have access to the site and has not put together a new one.
web site shows a price of 650.00 for the 1ton drive axles. the real price is 1200.00

As far as the Cornay CV's, they must be Bull Shi*, 5 calls into them and no returns. If they were on the up N' up, I still wouldn't deal with them. The MIGHT have a great product, but their customer service blows.

well that pricing is bit off! would think you could have local driveline shop build them though. and as for cornay, i have called few times also with no responce. best product ever dont matter if you dont answer the phone to sell it!
