i ve got a 3 rib tranny that i replaced first gear and the main shaft in but i cant seem to get the forks to set up like they should . I noticed that the tranny will go in ti 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th at the same time. I think this means that their is something wrong with the geartrain carrier but not sure what it could be. just woundering if any body had any suggestions on what could be the problem.

Is a steel shifter ball worn?Or if the trans is installed , is a set screw loose or worn down?Just a guess.

Sounds like the detents in the shift rails are missing or worn bad,,theres detents to keep two rails from moving at the same time or when one is in gear you cant move another one till you put it in neutral

yes i have it in a case i cut out to use for a jig. ive fixed a few of these things and never had any problem but this one is about to drive me crazy. I think i might tear it back down and check the detent springs and balls to see if something is missing or worn.

Check the detents that are between the rails(in the vertical holes)

thanks for the help and ideas. I found the problem, the pin that goes in the reverse rod was missing.
