Alright , so my motor was rebuilt again, and first off it wouldnt start because friend who built it didnt time it right, so after i figured that out and readjusted all the valves, instead of the rotor on the distbtr pointing towards the alternator or in the general area It points towards the #4 cylinder when the everything is set TDC on the compression stroke like it should, I got the motor to run but its rough and sounds like a knocking or pinging. I spun the distrbtr so that #1 was lined up with the rotor when tdc But soething is up i pulled the spark plugs and they are black as night and covered in carbon or soot what ever you wanna call it. Could it be the distributor drive shaft in wrong causing the whole problem? Im lost on this one and ill never let another person work on anything of mine ever again. atleast if i had put it together i would know where i may have screwed up ANy help is greatly appreciated

the motor will run with the dist. turned 180 degrees out like you said it was it sounds like to me you could have bad valve ping try adjusting the timing and see if that helps
