Just looking for feed back comparing the Dell 40's to Webbers.
I'm running modified Kadrons have n't even got to tune them properly yet. When a guy gave me a bucket containing a set of Dell 40's and intakes. The linkage and 1 filter are missing. He said if ya can use them he wants a flat of Busch. I just ordered the linkage and filters to day. Also ordered 1 5/8" ceramic header, up grade from 1 1/2" . These are for a 2276cc. The buggy's not quite finnished yet but have made a few test runs, it's fast already.

them dellortos are really good carbs,probaly put them on without doing any jetting

I'd love a set of Webers, but due to cash out lay opted for full rebuild and parts up grades for the Kadrons I already had. Now I've got a set of these Delorto 40's, got to use em. but again rebuild kits, floats and missing parts and manual to buy. Just wanted to know more about the carictoristics, (whew, close enough) of the carb, like tuning and performance. It seems that the Dells are sort of losing in popularity, but why? Thank's Dave W.

delortos are the best carb jus cant find them anymore,i watch a show the other day biulding a harley,they had to brand new delortos,dont know where they got them but they was the same as what does on a vw motor,tunning is easy jus get a base line on what jets to put in it and ur good,and they perform awesome,i wish u could still find them,everybody here would run them

I've ran brand new Weber 44s and brand new Dellorto 40s.
Choked both sets down and tuned them for throttle response and low end crispness.
No real bad complaints about either, both run great and very responsive.
Seems the dellortos are less problematic and a little crisper, but the webers seemed to work a little better at WOT.
I feel more comfortable tuning and working on webers, just cuz I've worked with them longer than dell's, but I personally like the crispness and hardly never clogged jets of the dell's over the couple extra rpms of the webers.

Thank's, that sounds good.,(makes me feel better and takes the sweat off my brow) These things do need some TLC. I've orderd stuff from 3 or 4 different places in order to find what I need. Then today heard of a local guy who handles Delorto stuff. I've heard that the 40 Dells are similar in performance to 44 Webers, is that true?

i bought a set of dell 40's of a guy that had them on a 1915 and bolted them right onto my new 2387 that runs excellent. the only thing i had to adjust was the idle after the cam was broke in

I bought a set of 40mm Dells from a young boy for $75 and stuck them on my 2332 and they perform better than any of the carbs ive ran in the past by far.Of course i got lucky on the price but i thought they would need a complete rebuild too,so they are definatly worth the repairs you are doing to them.

Been a while. Finally got the Dells done, new floats never showed though. Fired it up last week. Took some coaxing, but started. Ran good, reved well but back fired while idleing down. Found some vaccum leaks.
Has n't started since. One acelerator pump wieght was stuck and was washing down #4 like a toilet flushing. Block was full of gas. Almost thought it had siezed from the attempts to start it since then.
Cranking realy slow, (tried 2 starters) took battery back, had it tested, after changing oil, it cranked ok with out plugs. I'll have to check for spark at plugs, caus it's not even firing, but coil jumps to ground with out a lead. (Pertronics 2 ignition billet dizzy, MSD clone) Don't know why it won't start now?

What coil are you running? I have fried a couple of the petronix after changing coils. It ran for 15-20 mins then died (once with a petronix coil and once with a msd coil). Every time I ended up going back to the trusty 'ol blue bosch!

Never seen an MSD knock-off that was worth a crap. We tried brand new "pro-spark" (or some BS, I forget the name) knock-off full systems on Yankee's buggy and gustgraber's buggy. They were both junk right out of the box. Id try puttin the stock dizzy or a real MSD in it, just to narrow down the problem.

It's the 0.6 ohm epoxy Pertronics flame thrower coil. And there is spark at plugs. I'll have to go back through the Dell manual and double check, again, everything. Think I'll drop the floats in some gas, see if they sink or swim.

After chasing out starter issues and a hole lot of ghosts, got it started again. Had to turn the dizzy back to straight up and she went. But, it's only really running on 2 cyclinders, #1 & #3. Those pipes got hot, really hot, fast. 2 & 4 how ever, I could still touch 10 minutes later. I could block the velocity stacks on 2 and 4, it would eventually slow the engine. Covering 1 or 3 would stall it. Reving it and she roars and no back fire while idleing down. Could I have the valves set to tight. Chrome molly push rods, I'm set to 0.003. I was told a loose zero for the steel push rods. Need to get it running on all 4 before resetting timing or using the carb sync. Any ideas, HELP! Thanx, Dave W.

Been through the carbs a few times now, looking for any piece of crud that may have been missed. The #4 acelerator pump jet, still washes down after shut off. Pulled both #2 and #4 plug leads , just left 1 and 3 on while running. Did n't even stumble. Pulled plugs, regaped, reset valve lash. Tested plug leads. Reading the plug colors ya can see which ones were firing. I've switched them, see if 2 and 4 fire now.
I bought my plugs at different times. Guy who did some head work did n't return them, had to buy 2 more. Could be 1 set or the other could be faulty Shot in the dark.
