i have a 3 rib that looks a little bit different then the one in my buggy.the guy i got from said that ut came out of a vanagon..

3 ribs came in the VW Bus..the Vanagons had 6 ribs, so did some bus. Some folks call them all Bus or Vanagon,,including me sometimes. :oops: good question :?

The early vanagon diesels had a 3 rib main case.

can i send you a pic and you can tell me what its out off..??? it looks like a 3 rib but its a little different.will anything interchange with a normal 3 rib..??

is it a nose shift or side shift? I just got rid of a vanagon 3 rib side shift. It had a 091 part # stamped everywhere on it, so it really was a 6 rib (at least on the inside).

the # on the tranny is 002 301 103...does anybody know what its out of now..???

002 is three rib, 091 is six rib.

it's a side shift 3 rib.will it bolt up to a type1 motor and can you take the nose cone off an early style 3 rib and put it on a side shift 3 rib.so that it'll shift like and early 3 rib..?? what parts will interchange..???

Most likely it is a 5.86 ring&pinion, easily broken, not worth converting to front shift.
