So as some of you know i was having troubles with my engine down at wellsville, at one point we even thought it tossed a rod. Turns out that my flywheel came loose, which in turn louvered out the dowel pin holes beyond belief. I haven't split the case yet, but im assumming it trashed the case when it through the motor out of balance... We'll see. In the meantime i would like to find another shortblock of some sort. I only have 2 rides on this motor and both times it didnt run right. Definately sucks!

Don't let this get you discouraged. Use it as a lesson learned. Every VW motor must have the gland nut very tight. Always use red Locktite when installing the flywheel nut. If you get a used engine, remove the flywheel before you use it and reinstall it with locktite.

yeah, i understand, i look at this all as a learning curve, we've all been there. I torqued it down to 220 or so ft lbs and assumed it good but now i know and will make sure not to make this mistake again. I'll have a motor back together as soon as i can.

Jeff if you need a another crank I have a stock one for the price of shipping.

my self i never use a used gland nut if i take one lose i use a new one with a lot of lock t.

it was a brand new cb performance gland nut. Odyknuck ill keep that in mind, i havent pulled it apart yet, i fear the thrust bore is going to be trashed.

i did the same thing last winter. i havent rebuilt it yet but im putting a 74 crank in it

put a subaru in it for less money and more power, right madmike? I might be selling a 2077 turn key. will let you know

Jeff, Roy is right don't get dicouraged. I made ALOT of mistakes but I learned from them. You will learn alot before you get it right. I did. You seem like a sharp guy and you will have a short learning curve.
On the other hand if you weren't so sharp and you rode the short bus to school you may want to start looking for a place to mount the radiator.

haha i was thinking about mounting the radiator to my front bumper with ratchet straps, temporarily of course. No, but all radiators aside i did trash the crank, squared out the gland nut hole. Brian (buggyb) that did my transmission is going to rebuild it for me. Im going to pick up a counterweighted crank this time and a set of ratio rockers, also. brian is going to get the compression right in it and really get her pumping.. Probably won't make any more rides this year, but it's on for next spring!!
