no doubt firestone 23' 4 plys, are the best and 8 plys second best!!! That is for dirt and hill climbing. Some guys I ride with have been testing the 8plys and are haveing very good luck with them. But to make them flex you have to get them down to the cords. I have seen many people try different kinds of tires, and at D&K offroad park the 99% of the big hill climbers use them, the other 1% still use the bar tread. You can get the 23' firestone in a taller tire also a 33" and a 35.5" and a 41". All are 15.50 wide. I have a freind that has the 35" and the 41" tires on 2 different rock crawlers. :P [/code]

Around here people are stillusing the Buckshot P and Q tires. The rest have the Firestones. When I had my Firestones they were cut way down to get rid of the weight. I liked them but I don't do much of the serious hillclimbing anymore with my back being messed up.

When someone earlier talked about a backhoe tire it made me think of the Terramite T5D. They are small backhoes used a lot by rental companies. Here is a picture below the tires look similar.

OMG, I think that is the name the V6 dude gave me! I think I'll call some eqpmnt rental places around town and see if they have one. Maybe I can get the name of the tire off it. He said they were 4-ply 23 degree tires with an import name on them. Worth a shot.

The last time I was at our local VW shop he had a set of those tires for $150. If you are interested let me know and I will see if they still have them.

IM INTERESTED!!

PM, email, post it, whichever you prefer. The brand name of the tires would be great. Maybe the name and number to the shop? Where is Palm Bay? I used to live in Lake Mary (near Orlando). Went to the "BUG HUT" for parts. I was into street beetles back then though. Seems like 100 yrs ago! I used to cuss buggy dudes 'cause I thought they (we , now) were cutting up good beetles!LOLOL
THANKS in advance!

Ya know I'm ready to buy a set of beadlock wheels. I thought I was going to get a set of 14" wide Weld wheels to go with the 31x15.50x15 Firestones. Now that they are not available I'm thinking on a set of cut Boggers, 35x14.5x15 which wheel width do I get for them, 12"? Or will they fit a 14" wheel, incase Roy works magic and gets the Firestones made. Right now I have way to much power for the 12.5x15, cut 6 ply Goodyear's I'm running now and I'm wearing them out quick. What to do? MadMike

Im gonna be there tomorrow to pick up some parts. I will bring the camera and take some pics of them and get more info (if they are still there)

Palm Bay is on the east coast. Southeast of Orlando, about an hour south of Daytona on I95

The name of the shop is Space Coast Imports, used to be Hot Bugs but VW made them change their name

Hey Mad Mike I have my 35x14.50-15 boggers mounted on 10" rims. I added beadlocks so now they are closer to 11.5" wide. I have a set of 7" steel wheels with beadlocks that are now closer to 8.5" for sale if anyone is interested. The Boggers fit on the wheels but were a little to rounded on the tread instead of being flat and wide. I would say a 12" wide wheel is about perfect, any more and the wheel would bubble out past the sidewall of the tire.

Mine are 33" x 14.5". I put them on 14" wheels. I figured that would keep the tread flat. They work well. Dean

Goodyear has an ag tire called a "Super Terra Grip" that is offered in a 31x15.50-15 and 4-ply. I believe this is what they put on the Terramite backhoe. Here is a pic.

I went and checked out those tires this weekend. They werent the same as in the pic before but looked like a pretty good offroad tire. Probably not the best for hill climbing though. I didnt get a pic of them but here is a pic of the same tire.

Image

They are 33X15.50X15 with a pair of 3 rib tractor tires for the front. All the tires were in fairly new condition. He wants $200 for the whole set. I didnt get to weigh them but they were suprisingly light.

As far as the Baja goes, thanks! I hope to get some work done to it this week. Got a little done this weekend. Should be posting some more pics soon :D

Well I finally committed on a new wheel - tire set up;
14" wide Weld beadlock wheel with a 5" offset
31x15.50x15 Firestone 23* floatation 8 ply $143 each
When I get them I'll cut them to cords and let 'em rip.
Running tubes, I'll put in about 3 psi and see what happens.

You run tubes before? I have had the worst luck with them, especially at low pressure. They pinch so easy. You'd think it'd be less likely to get flats with them,

I had tubes when I first started had flat after flat. Ripped the tubes out on the trail and never used them again.

I'm running tubes now with no problems. These tires are 8 ply, 4 more than I wanted and 2 more than I have now. If they give me problems I'll yank them out. MadMike

I run 4 years on a set of Denman ditch diggers with tube before a flat . got it after making fun of Roy for getting flat cause of a sharp edge in his bead locks. Dave

I run Firestone 8 ply's with tubes and never had a flat in 12 years, but with a 8 ply you can run them flat because there so stiff they don't flex.I just took them off of steel rims and put them on alum. I had to go to three tire shops before i found one that could take them off[cause the side walls are so stiff].So when i got home i took my tire groover and cut the side walls down to the cords. It seams to help them flex alot better, not as good as 4 plys but they will have to work for now.

I made a tool to cut the smaller lugs out of my 35x14.5 boggers. It's a junk screwdriver and a bad sawzall blade. I can cut about 3 or 4 lugs, about 45 seconds a lug, then run it under the grinder to get an edge like a fine serrated knife. I dip it in water and the water lubricates the blade pretty well, better than gettin oil everywhere.

You will like the boggers. Not only do they work but they look tough as hell.
