I dont want anybody thinking that I suppose this set up to be the best,,,It is just mediocre. I run about middle of the pack. But for me it is just fine. I have been working out the bugs and the next set will be similar but just a little different. Get some ideas,,make improvements and use this set up for fun.

I took the vanagon hub off and machined it down to a diamiter less than the sprocket and chain and tapped it for 5 bolts to hold the sprocket on,,,it is actually slid on the splines backwards too with the sprocket on the inside of the hub piece to get the chain in as far as possible,,then the threaded part of the stub is shortened a little and rethreaded.

I would say a Sherman Tank would not weigh as much as his buggy. But it does go good.

Send the old ones up when you make the new ones. Might need them on wife's auto tranny set up if it doesnt stand up to conventional set up . I'll trade u a pair of them late 5 lug bus bearing housings and stubs you been looking for

I think this set up is way more than just mediocre. ITs the ticket if you want CD gear reduction, IMO. Doesnt throw chains due to trailing arm flex cuz both sprockets are on the arms so the sprockets cant misalign when you throw the power to them. And buggy doesnt have to be monster sized to accomodate them. Awesome work 'bug.

What bus parts are you looking for Firebug. I have some bus trailing arms with stub axles and I think they have a 40mm axle nut.

The ones I like are from the Vanagon with rear coil springs, the carrier unbolts. I use the carrier, stub, and hub. At least that is what I used on my prototype. I may look into using something different next time. Like maybe a 930 carrier,,that would save me some machining and may be more narrow too.
