 Post subject: need some help??

I was wonderin what size cam and crank, rods, would make a 2500, i was just going to build a 2387 but i figured what the hell might as well build a big motor.

and can i use a stock block or do i need to buy an aftermarket block

help please :D :mrgreen:

Start with a bubble top aluminium case. 90mm stroke x 94 mm bore. DPR 90 mm crank, CB 5.6 " H beam rods, extra long 94 mm barrels from Geers or JayCee Enterprises. (Geers get them unhoned and will hone them to fit your cylinders)The hill climbers on this forum are partial to the VZ 15 cam. The Web 86a and FK 43 cams are similar grinds with more lift that use 1.4 rockers. The cam will need some sections to be turned down to about 19 mm or flats ground in it to clear the rods. If you use 5/16" rod bolts there is less clearancing needed but you trade it for the strength of the 3/8 " bolt.

what would be the best heads?
i was thinkin about going with street eliminators but i didn't know
and i'm goin to build this myself so what is an average price to build this?

I had a set of Street Eliminators flow benched. 150 cfm at .600 lift pretty sad for an air speed robbing 44 mm intake valve. Even with a big stroker air speed is still critical for instant throttle response.
Have you talked to the hill climbers here on Woodsbuggy yet?
If no one in your area has experience with porting heads for large displacement low end stump pullers try contacting:

Hill climbing is very specialized so let them know you drag race is only up a short 50 degree inclined hill.

Perrib , not to argue, but you are obviously referring to a different kind of hill than what most of the hillclimbers on here like to play on. Unless 200 yrds up a billy goats ass is a "short 50 degree incline" in your book.
S/E's (not superflows 8) ) work excellent on a 2500 right out of the box if the rest of the compnents are matched up for them. Do a little match porting and bowl polishing and they work really nice. They may not flow the numbers on a bench like one of the custom worked ones, but they will do the job very well in the woods.

$7k will get you in the ballpark, but still not be top notch.

Then you need a tranny, stock geared 2500 wont fall out of a tree, or withstand the hp under a hard nose up pull in the woods with your tires bitin then slippin then grabbin etc etc.

Then you need some good (preferably clearanced) 930's.
then you'll need ......on and on and on. :shock:

You got a a good runnin buggy right now,Jessielee. Master what you got , then worry about movin up in a year or so. Easier on your wallet and your body.

When you are ready to go 2498cc I would buy a CB raised deck case.
You can get them 9.5mm raised.

I mostly listen and learn while on Woodsbuggy so I'll be ready for you guys when I finally get there. I only get to watch the videos. Besides short hills we have 1/4 mile to 1 mile long road hills out here so thats why I called them short. Like the drag racing from corner to corner that happens on a short track was my impression of Woods Buggy competitions except there are trees and rocks. I never meant easy.
As far as heads even the person who supplied and ported CB heads for me is not fond of of Street Eliminators. Low air speed, low cfm and significantly less cooling fins. To me used out of the box they are much of a deal for the price they get for them. Do they have potential? BIGTIME. I just prefer to get custom built heads for the application. That way besides getting the right ports and valve size, the combustion chamber ccs and spring pressure get set. CB reccomended and sold a $1200 set of SE 44mm x 37 mm heads and intakes to a friend for a street 1776. Thats a salesman making the biggest comission possible not a real recommendation by an experienced VW head porter who has his reputation to protect. While not certain I'm pretty sure a set of Steve Tims or Jeff Denhams heads and intakes will out perform a set of out of the box SEs and intakes and cost less or the same. They will also set combustion chamber ccs and valve spring pressure set something you won't get from a boxed set of heads. Jeff specializes in big strokers so it is easy for him to set up a first time 90x94 engine builder with the right parts the first time. I apologize if this reply was long winded. I just like to get the most for my cash.

The competition hills usually are less steep and shorter than what alot of kybuggies are built to play on.
I would not have thought any set of custom ported flowbenched heads would be cheaper than off the shelf S/E's. Maybe I need to give ol Steve or Jeff a call :wink: .

Wow , I just re-read my previous post and I typed "superflows" where I meant to type S/Es. :oops: :? :roll:

Thats because S/E look just like the original Super Flow heads designed by Dean Lowry and cast by Ken Lowry at Ken's ARPM foundry.
Steves Tims custom ported heads run from $590-1600 a pair. He will also port your reuseable heads.
