i know ive read this on here before but i cant find it,whats the highest compression you can run on 93 to 97 octane and so on.i know that some on here run alot of diffrent fuels and ratio's so i figured id see whats the best to go with.thanks,chad

I was told this by as long time roundyround shop owner and fuel distributor,
but dont know first hand, with 34 degrees total advance:
up to 10.5:1 = 93
up to 12:1 = 110
up 10 13:1= 114
up to 14:1 = 116
up to 18.5:1 = 120.
Thats what he told me, dont know if its 100% accurate.

beyond that, get some #2 diesel fuel and weld up your spark plug holes.

i am putting a new motor together and was wandering on where to set it is why i was asking ive heard of some running as much as 11 to 1 on pump gas with an octane booster and then ive heard you cant go over 9.5 to 1 on it and i know that on my 1641 i'm running just at 10 to 1 on 93gas and it runs good with it but im not sure i want to go with fuel over 93 or 93 with a little booster in it cause i ride for days sometime and will run out to the gas station on my buggy and refill the tank(and cooler) and this would be hard to do on racing fuels.another question is ive seen some crazy price ranges on racing fuels,what do you guys pay for fuel on say 112,114 octane and is it hard to get where you live.chad

I pad $6.50 for Race gas yesterday . I would run no more then 9.5 to 1 on 93 with a .045 deck heitht . Gas keeps getting craper & craper . Plus cylinder heads deck heitht cam size & timeing buggy weight all play a part.

I personally like the CAM 2 racing fuel (110 octane), I now have 11.55:1 compression and runs straight 110, that way I don't have to worry about buying junk gas anymore, there are a few around here where I live that I know for a fact that has bad gas and a few that still has good gas, I think you will like the 10:1 compression and run 50/50 93 octane pump gas and 110 octane racing fuel.

If you can get E85 close to home it is rated at 105 octane and its similar in cost to pump gas. Its not hard to convert. You will have to jet up a little and go with something other than regular rubber fuel lines. Racers are using with great success and theres info online on what it takes to convert.

I use 100% synthetic 116 fuel. (Base is the brand I like) I mix it 75/25 with 93 oct. gas. Some motors seem to need more fuel than others, I do not know why? All the books say what Larry said about fuel but most VW motors that have 10:1 comp. need to mix some fuel with the gas. Why it is that way??? I do not know. But you can ruin your motor if it does not have enough octane running it. But if you use too much octane you are just wasting it.
Also when you look in to buying fuel each company rates it different. You can buy 114 fuel from one place and it may only be 110 usable motor octane. Ex. ..........

What you are looking for is Motor octane, when you start looking for fuel. In Most cases the more Octane more money. If you can buy it in 55 gal at a time you can most of the time get it cheaper. Synthetic fuel last longer also it has up to a 3 year shelf life. Some of it is blends. Good luck. Both of the sites I posted have some good charts to go by. I buy 116 motor rating (119 research) for $365.00 a barrel.

General rule of thumb for air cooled engines as they are different than the race engines that are watercooled.

93 octane pump gas will support 9.5-1 compression ratio. Sometimes a bit more if it's good fuel.

You can go higher if you use special pistons or certain camshafts but this is a general number.

10-1 with a little octane boost will be fine.
