Who is going to be the 1st to remove their passenger seat and put a front wheel drive motor and trans with an IRS diff bolted exactly where their VW bus diff was? Motors do not nag ,tell u not to go up a hill, not to look at other girls or when to go home and do not loose their lighters every 3rd hill. The money u save can be spent building hers. The air off the radiator would be warm.Sell your existng mechanicals to fund it.It don't call for $900 carbs, oil coolers, adapter plate, pressure plate, 4 spyder diff, clutch ,on n on n on.The stock shifter cables and shifter stays attached and bolts to your floor and takes 2 mins to worry about. Put your battery , gas tank tools and beer where your w/c or a/c motor was and stop buying rocket fuel.Dave out.

It's not mine, one of the lads from the french Rallyes TT series.

If you mount one using just the road car diff and gearbox you'll find the shock kills them in short order, and the gearing is miles out, and the shaft'll be a right bugger to make as most of them use tripod inners.

Hence the longitudinal setup with a 7-series BMW diff.

But, if you're gonna put the engine in the middle, may as well just build a new car eh?

Those buggies are awesome! The gearing on the Passat is perfect. Comparing to a bus trans,1st 1000:1, 2nd 550:1, 3rd 400:1 etc. The transmission has not let me down yet,but I did shuck some Ford 7.5 diff's until I moved up to the Ford 8.8.It is massive inside!

They are right up until you sell them and realise you have to compete against the buggers with the little VW-based beastie

7k car vs 50k car is a bit of a challenge!

if your runing the 8.8 why not upgrade to a 9 inch and be done with it? no worries about breaking a 9 inch

Thanks, but I don't see how this one can break. Plus it was only $60 at Pull a Part.I lost an inch of ground height . Can't loose no more.
