Yeah, we've got a few race series over here we can run in.
Mixture of wooded tracks, mud, gravel and grass mainly, with the odd stream bed to run up.

I'll get some build details up over the weekend, but basic spec:

T45 (similar to your chromoly tube, but better for welding) frame/cage to MSA specs.
Renesis rotary engine - 268bhp
Renault UN5 transaxle
Mix of Fox + Bilstein dampers
1875lb wet weight inc. two people.

Ugly parachute-style mud-guards are regulation spec unfortunately!

i liked the sound of that thing just seemed to never top out just kept cranking and got up there fast to.cant wait to see some pics of this thing up close.chad :mrgreen:

It goes further than that, we'd just limited it to the stock 8.5Krpm whilst we checked everything was bedded back in and we had chance to flush the oil, rev. limit is 10krpm in race spec, but I don't like trying that on oil that's been stood all winter!

80% of max torque right from 2.5krpm to 8.8krpm, it's a beautiful engine, drops off a little after that, the extra revs are just so we can hold a gear mid-corner if need be, maximum power is at 9.2krpm.
From 3.6krpm to 7krpm the torque curve is table-top flat... :lol:

It used to be a 2.3 aircooled on a 3 rib, but it did that magic trick where it lets all the blue smoke out of the exhaust and starts making funny noises :D
And you don't want to see what's left of the gearbox...

Seems like that power train might be a good application to a Hill Climber. Do y'all Climb over there? How does the Renault Transaxle compare to a VW 091?

Nothing as steep as you guys do, we do occasionally have a 1:1 slope to scramble up as part of a course, but never from a standing start (unless we've screw up :D )
Not certain about strength compared to the 091, but it'd probably be great for you hillclimbing guys, it's got a 5.85:1 diff. ratio, 8.25" crownwheel, 4-spider gears...
There are a few of the GT40 kit car guys using these with an aftermarket 3.44 differential and pushing 700-800bhp through them 8)

First cooling setup, since altered, as oilcooler was about 3 times too small, now has bigger cooler, bigger hoses, radiator shroud, new fans and roof scoop and ducting:

DIY adaptor plate + a little lathe work on the VW flywheel to make it fit the rotary + 2700lb pressure plate + 4 puck clutch.

We had a few problems with red glowing bits where the brake discs should be, and flaming pads, so made up some new discs and matched them up with some custom Carbotech XP8 pads:

We run electric powersteering, which our old 60amp scrapyard alternator wasn't keen on, cue melted terminal (and replacement with new 138amp alt.)

Few extra cooling vents added for the event after that due to not being able to use full throttle without heat problems!

In fact, found this torque graph of the standard RX8 engines, they're a bit smoother and higher with a few tweaks and a straight through exhaust though:

Little bit of video from an event early last year after we'd just got it together:

Lots of clutch slip, overheating problems (hence all the new vents and ducts now, it was on that tiny oil cooler in this one), rear damping is miles out, tyres are fooked, but it finished 1st in class anyway. :D

Should have some video from an onboard camera at the event next month, hopefully, although it's a nice clean gravel one on an airfield, no mud to play in! :(
