What kind of motor is that? what yr andmodle did it come out of?

2.2 gm ecotec. This one came out of 02 Pontiac grand am. 150 hp 150 tq. These are in every chevy cobalt built and also the last cavs.

Its hard to tell from picture above but there is curently no head on it. have brand new chain, giudes, tensioners and head gasket. These are interference motors if the chain slipped it probably bent valves.

Mines ok. I've got about 3 inches to spare. I've looked at others on this site also. Imortal souls looks very tight but terry fryers looks very roomy.

I think my quad 4 is about the same size as well. And it has a few inches to spare in a stock berrien frame. I wish it was an eco though, less weight would be nice, just not in my budget yet.

Yea mines very tight. Had to modify the one tube on the rear pan to clear the alt. pulley. The frame was built in 1985 so they had no clue what an ecotec was Lol.

Your frams a berrien warrior right? Cause come fall Im picking up a knock down kit for a new winter frame build.

Yup good call mine just started making noise this weekend. Time to do the same thing.

The ecotec fits so well. Its like it was ment for buggies. Short oil for great ground clearance, all aluminum only weighing 301lbs with the adapter plate. Makes great low end torque for a 4 cylinder. Since its and I4 engine an not the H design it makes the center of gravity a little higher but I was very impressed with this engine.

Build looks great Join the ecotec revolution! lol :D

you say the oil pan is short... are the pans different in different model cars? i know a guy that has knocked holes in 3 pans in i think an 04 cobalt.. i know it junked 2 motors from it and he caught it soon enough the 3rd time to save the motor

gez does he have a skid plate? I used road signs as a skid plate and havent had any problems. The saturn oil pans have different mounting points. Ill try to find a pic. My buggys got the saturn engine in his and he had to make new motor mounts. I doubt they are any shorty.

Looks good! Let me know what you think of the whole shifter setup after you get to drive it.

You have anymore pics of the engine apart there? About to do a new timing chain in mine and would like to see what Im getting into there.

Got the head on the timing chain installed as well as electric box mounted and fuel pump and electric fans wired up. Timing chain is real straight forward. No special tools needed and colored links on chain to line up with marks on sprockets. There is a seperate chain to drive balance shafts and water pump. These are fine and i did,nt replace them. you can see them in picture.ImageImageImageImage

I weighed my engine with adapter plate at 301 LBS and my radiator weighs next 2 nothing being aluminum. Maybe a couple LBS.

Looks sweet and very nice. Makes me want to pull my daily driver (03 sun fire) off the road and start converting. How much do you think you will have in the entire change over? Parts only?

Thanks. I got alot through work for almost nothing. Engine(free),engine parts(200.00) ecm(free),alternater(free),cooling fans(free),radiator(120.00),adapter/clutch/flywheel(700.00),used sideshift 6rib(350.00),trans linkage(260.00). Have a little in 2 small fuse blocks, radiator hoses, couple exhaust elbows, etc. And i,m modifying the eng harness myself. These engines and related engine harness are available real reasonable if you check around.

I'm out of money so progress has slowed a little. Got my rear cage modified and back on. cooling system is now complete and throttle cable hooked up. I need a starter and my vats bypass before i can start it.
