Well, the 3 rib will gear you down. I run a 1641 and trailride 2nd and 3rd. But NEVER climb in anything but first. 1641+3 rib= a great woods setup

you will need a bus mounting kit also, 30 bucks i think, and they are much stronger than sedan

Bus cv's will fit on the axles you have. You can either run just bus cv's on the trans side and keep the car cv's on the outer ends, or you will have to change or convert your axle stubs in your trailing arms to accept bus cv's. Probably be just as easy to pop a set of chromoly cages in those car cv's and let them run their course. You will probably start being a little more radical with a lower gear trans though and find them to be your weak spot

in my personal opinion i believe that any transmision but a 3 rib would be a fine choice for your car.
REASON BEING- you dont have enough power to pull much more than 1st gear! so if you go from a 4.12 ring and pinion to a 5.38 it will be to slow to spin the tires fast enough to climb in 1st and your engine wont have enough power to pull 2nd. a sedan tranny in my opinion is just about perfect for a 1641. they are super cheap and easy to find and honestly you wont gain a damn thing other than being able to say you have a bus tranny.

i run a 3 rib with a turbocharged 2332 and can almost pull all of 3rd gear climbin a wall so that gear ratio works great for me. it wont for you

sedan 4.12 ring and pinion
3-rib 5.38
a 5 rib 4.86
and a 6 is a 4.56

i would stick with the sedan tranny.

you are on crack,or some other mind altering drug to say he wont like the 3 rib.a 1641 witha 3 rib is alot better.been there done that.hes going to 31's and with a 3 rib you dont think he can spin the tires.i have run this combo for years and i know it is better for the riding here to run with the 3 rib than the car tranny.but you have your opinion.chad

3 rib, 3 rib, 3 rib, 3 rib...etc.... Sedan are not going to hold up. Ran one for a couple of years and won't go back... ever. They are cheap! (sedan that is).

well i dont ride in virginia so i cant argue that point. my arguement is in wheel speed. yes he will spin the shit out of the tires with a 3 rib but his overall MPH wont be greater than 20 MPH at 5500 RPM! his little motor prolly doesnt have enough shit behind it in 2nd to pull like it does in 1st. there for i higher first gear which his sedan tranny is offers him lets just say a wheel speed of 30 MPH. he still doesnt have enough shit to pop it into 2nd but he can pull all the way through 1st no problem with increased wheel speed thus throwing your mouintain farther behind him :D

thats my point

and yes a sedan isnt as strong as a bus HANDS DOWNS NO CONTEST! but they are a dime a dozen. if your motor is almost stock than why put an expensive hard to find tranny that also decides to be a granade sometimes when you dont -really- need it? bring a spare and dont put it into reverse! lol

your drivin it not us
