I bought some 944/type 4 joints off evil bay and once installed would I be better to cut my stock spring plate stops off to get max travel and add adj clevis and limit straps ? I have never cut the stops off any of my previous buggies and was wondering if this is what most of you guys do ? (other than going 930s of course )

you're supposed to notch the spring plate itself, my dumbbutt cutt the stops, not completely off, just enough to get more clearance when i put my airbags on because my torsion was turned or something.... But yeah, notch the spring plates, don't cut your stops,,, run limit straps too. if you look at nitro mudders post about limit straps, i posted how to make "clevises" on the cheap, pm me if you want more info on them...

i wouldnt think you'd want to cut into the spring plates but if seen it both ways and i actually cut my stops off also...

I actually have both. I put a half inch grove in my spring plate and I relocated my stops down about half an inch.

Do this,,,then measure limit straps at the shock mounts ( let it droop until cv bind them jack it up till cv's spin free) and subtract about a half inch and order straps

Thanks for the info guys I have notched spring plates several times usually around 1/4 "with bus joints .I was curious if many guys cut there stops off and if that was a better way .
MM what did you use when you relocated your stops ? you are running a custom torsion arent you ? mine is a stock VW

If you use good straps you don't need the factory stops at all

Yep.. I have an aftermarket torsion that gives you a couple extra inches past the bring plat cap bots so I was able to but a stop lower than stock.

i always cut stops off and run straps well for everyone eles that is i run aftermarket torsions they have no stops i guess this is y cut everyones off lol

ive cut spring plates before and not planning on putting any notches in the new ones i cut the stops some not all the way off but enough for some more clearence still need to get some limit straps though

thats what i did cut factory stop off. and use limit straps with no problems at all.

see thats what i did, then i got told i did it wrong, guess not. sorry.

Cut them off, do not notch the spring plates and run limit straps. It is the best way to go. The straps have give rather than the spring plates bouncing of a solid mechanical stop.
