Stength, travel and overall durability are the goals. Due to puppy sales I should have some money to play with. I'm not going to go any wider on the beam due to the tight wooded trails we ride at Haspin acres. I'm thinking some type of combo spindles, maybe dropped if there are strong ones available. I plan on staying with my 5lug rims. Longer wider trailing arms. And some type of nitrogen shocks to help with getting the spring rate set right.
Ok so this is where you guys come in. Where to look, and what to look for. You guys have done this longer then I have and tried a veriaty of setups. What works? What holds up? Oh and down the road I would like to add disk breaks as well.

Put a A-arm front end on it .
If some one would have told me this 25 years ago it would have saved me lots of cash
I just sold my front end to Racebuggy
What I have now is Strong,2 times the travel,and if you build it it cost a little less then the store bought stuff
If you build spindles like Afterburnt built ,and I will send you the pattern for the A-arms if you want them
you can save just a little time

those ford explorer spindles are the only way to go, they are cheap, and strong. the only part about using those is the hub, i made my own aluminum hub but i duplicated the ford explorer rotor, just to reduce the weight.

to make heavy front end with king kong spindles is alot of work. first of all, what kind of equipment do you have in your shop to work with? there is alot of close tolerance machining, if you decide to go this route, i could help you through it, heres some pictures of my front end, http://www.woodsbuggy.com/index.php?opt ... f=4&t=6750
this has been working really good for me, i havent had a problem yet. this project did take me the whole winter, it cost me about 900 bucks, but i had access to different types of metals, heat treating, bearings, etc.

Afterburnt, I want what you have, but I don't have access to any of the mills or lathes needed to acomplish it. I will have to settle with what I can find in aftermarket parts Probibly leaning towards what plumberbill has on his rig. But because of haspin acres close quarters I do not plan on putting a 6" wider beam on it.

Nope, decided my daughters buggy is going to become my future project vehicle next year v6 or v8 chaindrive perhaps. Got a few ideas i'm toying around with. Just feel like experimenting with something new and untested. Half the fun is building it.

what ever front end you decide on, make it heavy to hold that thing down.haha.if you take your time you can buy someone elses big project build and maybe save yourself alot of money.every year i see people get this big idea of building a buggy and they run out and buy the first thing that comes along,go to throwing money at it,and then realize it takes alot more money,time and hard work to do it than they thought and they sell it to buy a 4wheeler or a truck.check out thesamba or some of the other classified sites,let us know what you decide on and somebody will find you a good deal before to long.good luck.chad

I'm excited for you to come down man! Maybe this time i wont be so broken, as i was last mem. day. I had to sit around the party all day saturday and some of sunday because my darn buggy wouldnt run worth a crap. HeCk, I think about 70% of the people on here that were there tried to help my sorry a$$ lol. Next year I will be able to actually hang with the “big boys” and not just sit around at camp! Lol. Ive been watching this thread to see what you are doing. I am in the same boat. I want a stock width beam with longer trailing arms & heavy duty raised spindles. Maybe somebody wants to tool up & make some parts to sell. I dont have the skills or machines needed to make em. I know my limits.

Here is a Combo Spindle option. Up until now I would not recommend Tweeds design Spindels due to rapid bushing and kingpin ware. However after working with Steve the owner of Tweeds for the last year, I finally convinced him to go with Chromoly heat treaded king pins and needle bearings similar to the Fodrol and Woods product line. He is now geared up to make them and they are still half the price of a Fodril 1 1/2" Combo spindel. I am sending one of my sets to him to have converted over. Yea, I know I can do the work however he already has a fixture setup and I have a full winter plate of projects. I will also have my spare set up for sell if one of you guys are Interested. I will say that a 4 wheeler hit me back in the fall and I had to reweld the tie rod link however it worked just fine the rest of the season. Well except for the bushing ware Saga.

Im not sure about Nitro but I want to try 3" raised spindles on my new one. I have a set of combo's that need the bushings replaced as well. I think I have the skill to make the spindles using stock ones but
I only want to try it if I have no choice. Arms are another thing though.
