stingrayrat i tore apart my motor somewhat. i was lookin at your pics and i only have two pulleys. or is there an aftermarket pulley kit out there somewhere? i want to take off the heater housing im guessing to loose weight? but the alternator is mounted to that. has anyone figured out a solution to mounting?

mine is a 427 chevy billit for powersteering, get that bracket and shroud from{fox shocks]in zeeland michigan.pully can be bought on samba vw for about 60,its easy to use t1 alt and fan.my engine fan is overdriven slightly because of pully, runs very cool under 3k.mine is overengineered and not the easy way,i had the tools handy and time ,materials were free.i ran stock cooling to test drive for 3 months.if you can post pictures of mine and i"ll describe changes.first get some[ pb blaster]solvent working on exhaust nuts for a week,at the head it's cridical not to unscrew studs.....very rough fix because of location.i will swap my headers for those exhaust parts if still good.richard

Well I would like to sell you an upright shroud, but the only 1 I have right now would be the black 1. I can how ever sell you a generator stand. I'm working on a Alternator stand. I bought the Joe Cali conversion book. It tells how to use the 36hp Dog House fan shroud and 2 sets of head tins. It is a good book to get if anyone is thinking about doing this conversion. Thanks Dave T

They must be easier to cool than you think,,my Dad has no tins at all just a fan blowing down on open fins,,,like a motor cycle,,,plus oil cooler. He don't ride much anymore but he still has his buggy. I will get some pics soon.

how much more cooling do you get with the upright over stock....is the stock cooling system sufficient or is that a big negative... the reason im asking is that i have a 2000cc stock bottom end, except cam, worked heads 50mm in., 40mm ex. ported, and have a s/c to put on it and it would make it so much easier with stock cooling.

stock cooling is dependent on a perfect thermostat with engine warm before vigous driving.my tailbone has taken a few shots smashing stock cooling into earth.upright is not better, just more rail freindly, the porche 911 fan for under 2.5 liters is a step backwards imho.richard

have had one in my buggy all summer. running stock computer and cooling set up with remote oil cooler. have no real complaints! have not even had to change one spark plug and no problems on hills. pulls like a tractor and sounds like one too! have heard rumors about a 45hp computer chip but never looked into it

Mornin' You can use a car trans if you machine the center of your 210 or 215mm flywheel to accept the pilot bearing that is in the Gland nut from a type 1. You must pull the old pilot bearing out of the crank shaft, then when the new 1 is fitted to the flywheel it must sit flush on the clutch side and then it will stick out the crank shaft side and some of it will fit back into the crank. The 228mm flywheel is by my understanding too large to clear the inside of the trans bell housing... I'll be watching this build. Thanks Dave T

Looking at your pic it is a type 2/4 engine. The engine codes should be either at the breather tower or close to the bell housing area on the case half... Also you have PM Thanks Dave T
