Haven't pulled the tranny yet, 1,2,3,4 all work, seems like I only have half of reverse gear when on a flat surface. Tranny is a 5 rib. I am guessing that I will be replacing bearings and seals, and the reverse gears. Any other suggestions or comments?

I take it that it makes the difficult job a whole lot easier?

Would Long Enterprises probably have something like this?

How are Long Enterprises' parts compared to weddle's? price and quality?

Thanks.

The people at Long Enterprise are very helpful and friendly. I have done lots of business with them and have all way received great service and parts. His Used parts are first rate would not even know they were used if he did not tell you. Just my 2 cents worth.

You can get the pinion socket for $87 here. It's the cheapest I found.

Found out this afternoon the small reverse gear is $70 and the big reverse gear is $250 from Long Ent. Ouch. Alot more than what I was thinking. Will be calling Weddle tomorrow to see what they want. Talked with Eric and will be doing it myself, doesn't sound too hard.

Reverse from a single side plate car tranny [superbeetle] is the same gear.
Small gear is 15 tooth.

That is way too much.
I keep a few of those gears new.
Get a tooth count on both and I can get you a price if you'd like.

The transmission Maddog speaks of is an AT code tranny and came in all Beetles about 73 and later.
Look here for the ID code.
Pad opposite the fill plug and just below the 9:00 position.
