120 ga. I think is what the metal shop called it.

Last year we rode for 4 days arround new years. There was only arround 15 buggys there. It also depends on the weather, how many will show up. I hope to see yall there.

11 ga. = 1/8" = .125

I know some guys run .100 and I have seen 3/16 on some. It all depends on how durable you want it vs. the weight you want to hang on it.

Thanks Roy. Most arround London goes with the .100 but it was very little difference in weight. So we thought the .125 would last longer.

Around how much does that diamond plate run? Just a round about estimate.

I'm getting to the point where I'm in need of a floor for my buggy project and I'm not looking forward to paying for it, hah.

Last time I checked at Metalsupermarket (502-479-3231) on Old Shepardsville Rd., it was around $240 for a 4x8 sheet.

Did you ever ask "Crazybone" about that plastic stuff they were using? Sounds like good stuff.

Surely not for undercarriage or is it? I am looking at adding Diamond plating to mine and do it right. Right now it is pop riveted on there with Aircraft grade rivets. Going to add tabs and bolt the new one on with lock tite as well. Looking to add some body panels to the sides, not sure yet on that part.

Yep, its for a floorpan. Or whatever you might think of! Supposed to be some badass stuff. I forget the name of it, but its tough enough that a thin strip will bend in a circle and never crack. He said you can get it any thickness you want, and its not real heavy for its strength, and its really slick, like what they put on the bottom of airboats (teflon I think) or something. When he told me about it (year or so ago) $75 would get you plenty big enough piece 1/2" thick to cover a buggy floor. I was gonna try it, but got a good deal on some alum. diamond plate off buggytrader before my frames were done. I had thought about using a thin piece of it UNDER my diamond plate, to get the bling on top and the slickness on the bottom. Thinking about it is as far as I got though.

Hey Tony, chime in on this. You are the one who knows about it!

Yeah, he uses 1/2" thick Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) Polyethylene, which should definitely be nearly indestructible as he says.

I'm still definitely keeping that a possibility. I'm kinda waiting to see if I run across anything cheap or free though, it just seems like it wouldn't be too hard to find some aluminum laying around somewhere that someone doesn't want.
I can't wait much longer though, so we'll see.

I'm gonna need some experimental 2x3 trailing arms too  8)

Railhomie, round up the donor trailing arms, lets give it a shot! Call me when you get them and we'll figure out a day to try and build 'em.

It's very strong stuff Larry, light and slick also comes in many colors. It's price has come up some but not as high as steel/alum. It's the same stuff used for cutting boards and Industrial equipment like in mining. You don't have to use 1/2", 3/8" is more the strong enough for what we use it for. I used the 1/2 to counter sink the bolt head in too so the bottom ha

Thanks, Crazybone.

Curious about those prices, Railhomie. I run the .100 aluminum diamond plate and its already beat up after only 5 rides. Might think about the UHMW under it again.

I bet with the Alum diamond plate together you could get away with 1/4" or 5/16" to save some money. I will be getting me some in a month or so for my new buggy I will let you know what it cost me.

Hey larry making your own trailing arms isnt that difficult as long as you have a left and right trailing arm to make jigs Ive made a couple of sets and they work really well, mine newest ones are two wide by four long.

Aaron, thanks, but I've made my own extended arms for a couple years now. I have jigs.
Railhomie is needin a set, and we been talking about trying a different way to make 'em so he wont have to buy a sheet of 3/16 plate.

Just go to the fab, sheet metal, & machine shops around your area. Most of the time they will sell you scrap or cut off, most of the time its new.

Ah! Thank you for mentioning that! I used to work for a metal fabrication shop, and I could almost definitely get some from them if I need it.

Why didn't I think of that before?

Hey Bruce what kind of rockers are you running on that motor. They look slick, where did you buy them if you don't mind me asking.
