Yea that would be cool however you would be hard pressed to find a publisher to do it economically. The copy price would be quite high due to the number of buyers would be small relavent to other Mags like VW, 4 wheel drive etc. Basically there are just not enough of us.

Sand Sports is a pretty cool magazine that highlights buggy's. It is published by the same company as Hot VW.

Maybe we can call Sand Sports and see it they want to include WoodsBuggy's..

I am sure they would post stories and technical write ups but that means that one of us would have to be literate enough to write an article...

Willie I'll go on any ride if you split the gas with me  Or 1/4 of it in peach shine  Oh and we will make this damn Halloween trip dang it!!!! As long as someone will help me load up broken buggy when we are all done. And oh ya, I would love to have a Magazine! I mean if you look at the amount we all post on here there is enough topics. The problem is with just a few writters you wouldnt get near as much info as we do on here. And then we need someone outside of us to play photographer. Because I know I'm not going clear down south to just shoot vids and take pics. Besides if all goes well I'll have enough trouble focusing my own vision let alone a camera. Hmmmmm, you know, we could hire a photographer for the big get-togethers and split the fee. Say an extra $5 at the gate and then put the pics somewhere where we can get them afterwords on photobucket or something. Just a thought.

too bad i dont have my old job back i worked at a print shop from 1992-2003 and we did a lot of magazine style publications until they closed up shop for good. might could have slid a trial run out the back door.

the guy that did the videos of the last 2 hillclimbs at wilborns might do photos and videos not sure about though

also http://www.rickybphotography.com/ this guy is from around birmingham or tuscaloosa area but he mainly does rock crawlers but for the right price he might be willing to do photo shoots at our events also especially if there is no big crawler event at the same time and he has had photoshootsthat were published in crawl magazine and maybe ours could at least be sent in to hot vws if we dont get our own magazine started which i would definetly subscribe to if one was started even if it was bi-monthly or even quarterly

I've been there already. They were supposed to do a feature on my turbo buggy. I sent them tons of pics and all the info, the editor emailed me several times and thats the last I've heard of them.

I would support and buy anything that featured woodsbuggys. There are many OFF ROAD magizines that have nothing to do with vws that could certainly feature our OFF ROAD cars. And in turn find new advertisers as well.

Well you could go to a Kinkos' style quick printer and have somthing printed.. The problem with Sand sports mag... Not enough MONEY in our buggies to impress them, their loss. I like the inginuity that comes with building woods style buggies... Just my thoughts. Thanks Dave T

the only way to get your buggies in those magazines, is if you have a 100,000 dollars or more into your buggy and i bet you that the only work those people do is sign checks and pick them up from the buggy shop. what we have here on this website is way better than any magazine. everybody can join in, and I'll bet you, everybody on this website spends countless hours and their last dollars on their buggies. now how can you get people more dedicated than us?
Dave
PS, i dropped my subscription to hotVW magazine 2 years ago.

Yup. Haven't had a Hot vw mag in 8 years... The last time I had Sand sports was to advertise the Fox Shox business.. I would have had to sell 6 buggies worth of shox to pay for a 1 year(6- month) ad deal...OUCH I would rather write in here and get all the info I could ever use from REAL people out in the field trid and true... Thanks Dave T

Fellow Off Roaders,

I was involved with an outdoor magazine : Outdoor Review : , back in the early 80's I was actually the publisher of the short lived mag.

At the same time I was racing off road buggies in Ohio , W Va and Penna..

There was a lot I learned with this endevor and have thought since of trying it again for another hobby I have which is slot cars. I'll have to say that ya'll have my attention with this concept.

There are some good points that have been brought up in this post.

Believe me , I don't have all the answers here and don't want top come across as such. I'll answer what I do know about however if asked from here on out.

Let me comment on some issues now though.

1. Magazines are used more for marketing than for reading literature. They depend on advertisments to survive. In reality they could give the mag away and still make money. For advertisers to advertise , the Mag has to have a rather large subscription rate.

2. The Mags content is never a one man coverage. That is one mistake I made in my previous venture. You have to have other people feeding you pictures and details of their experiences , rides and builds etc etc.

3. On a sour note, I have bad news as far a magazine goes. My daughter works in advertising in the Seattle , Washington area. She reports to me and I can see it that magazines , and newpapers are loosing subscriptions as to the internet. Just think about it. Here we are now online talking about it.

4. I think it would be hard to get a new Mag off the ground in this day and age . Let alone the economy , the internet is a big interference. Slick papaer Mags would be out of the question period. There would be a couple million dollar start up on a Mag of that calibur.

I too would be interested in a magazine for woods buggies . We might even want to include atv's and 4x4's as well. Truth be known we probably all have more than one mode of off road vehicle.

I'd like to suggest the idea of starting an news letter for our sport opposed to an all out magazine. The newsletter would have to carry itself with selling cheaper advertisements and be of a newspaper type paper and print. I'm not sure as to the color picture concept but I think it could be worked out. Clear balck and white pics are not really that bad however. The good point is that it would be pointing the content to the users and not broadcasting info on other spin off vehicles IE: Cal Loook Bugs .

I'm interested in seeing some feed back on this subject.

I've recently started a project that I'd like to see covered in Hot VW but it hasn't even a chance. I'm building an old school pan buggy for nostalgic reasons. I've had more tube chassis than I can count both woods buggies and class 1/2 1600 racers along with a couple SCORE 9 cars. Now I want somthing that will take me back to my roots, the old pan type buggy. Cut / Weld / Ride . You get the idea.

All for now, Gonzo

This is our magazine if you think about it. We have a feature car every month(botm)i think(lol). We have event coverage from the various places we ride in the form of pics and videos from those that are there. We get event results the same way. We recieve info on events and rides that are coming up and technical info is everywhere all you have to do is ask. Advertisers are here too. Like a magizine we need the input of several to put it all together. And i look forward to sitting down every night to see whats new and not waiting all month for something i can read cover to cover in one night. If i have questions,i can get answers quickly. THE INTERNET ROCKS!!!

yeah i agree the net has hurt printed material but........

who takes their comp to the "john" with them?

who wants to take their $800 or more laptop to the shop and put their greasy hands all over it while working on the buggy?

some passengers like to read while on road trips.

also when waiting on family members at a doctors office or the hospital.

these are a few reasons that i dont think the net will completely remove printed material from our society. jmo.

crawl magazine is an example of a specialized magazine that caters to only custom built hardcore rock crawlers instead of rich kid toys with a bunch of bling bling like most 4x4 mags are.

Hey guys, I don't know if there would be any interest or not and this is just a thought, but maybe anyone who has a knowledge on how to write and put the material together might be able to create an online magazine. I was just looking around and came across this. http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2008 ... imedia.htm I don't really know anything about it as far as cost and all that, but if someone wanted to read up on it and check it out, might be interesting. There are others sites out there, this is just a for instance. Just a thought.
