I am trying to figure out a way to use my old, smaller air bags up front. Actually I am wanting to eliminate the lower beam spring leafs because I want to beef up the tubes on my lower front trailing arms by pressing a tube inside them. Seems I have bent them some and it makes my buggy out of camber . What do yall coil over folks use for through rods? Do they twist a little without breaking? Or do they slip at the ends? Sorry if this makes no sense,,,maybe it will later

Hey bug, I rember seeing a pic of a bug with the air ride mounted to the beam. They mounted the bags to the beam. Ibeleive the springs were shortened and the beam had slots in it for levers to come out to the bag. My throgh bolts are nutted at the ends and they just pivot there. They slip at the ends and dont twist as the suspension moves. I will see if I can find pics of that bug. There was a kid from washington on dune-buggy.com that used cantlevers to move his susp. Heres a pic with the air bags on nathaninwa's car from the other site.

My first thru rod car, I spent all the money and got cromoly thru-rods, and had no problems. My race car, I just bought some kinda high strength all thread, and still no problems. My woods car, I am using just reguler old all-thread. We'll have to wait and see how well that works.

My front end is using through rods too, you can buy a high-strength round stock chromoly certain lenght you want and cut them to fit then use a 1/2" die thread cutter on the ends and use 1/2 grade-8 nylock nuts and washers, just don't tighten them up all the way, just enough to let it work freely and no play side to side.

Hello all.
Firebug, how is your air bag front end coming along.
What is the dia. of the bags that you are going to use?
I have been working on an air bag beam front end for my buggy.
I think I have most of the issues worked out as how to make it.
I'm just not sure what dia. bag would work best.
I know that the large the dia. the better ride.
But their is not alot of weight on the front to support and a smaller
bag dia. say 5" or 6" would make it more compact design.

Hi back,,, I have put the front rebuild on hold,,while I did some tranny upgrading and now engine swapping,,I will get back on it later. I have some small bags that I plan on using,,,its gonna look odd but that should just fit the buggy

I think I'm going to use 6" dia. bags. At least that what I design to fit.
It's a buddget build so I'm working on the design now. I'm upgrading my
rear brakes to disk now. Then probably the pedal assembly next. It's
has a stock bug setup now and when I push on the pedals the whole
bracket assembly flexes. I dont like that much. I just bought the buggy
in June. Its a old 4 seater. Its looks like a Invader frame.

Any way I'm thing to make the beam assembly so it can fit the standard
rail mounting location. In case anybody else is going to want one.
