We were driving down Smith St. about the time this must have happened, because there were a lot of emergency vehicles passing us.

An accident occurred about 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the 9100 block of Cooper Ridge Road near Milton. Norman Goodpaster, 59, was driving a homemade dune buggy in the northbound lane when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a rocky hillside head-on, Chafin said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Goodpaster was not wearing a seat belt, and investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, Chafin said. The Milton Volunteer Fire Department and Cabell County EMS assisted at the scene.

It was Bugs from Bear Holler. He didn't run off a cliff, he just drove into the hillside from what they can tell. I didn't know him that well but he was a friend of the family...

I just told my wife, Mrs. Hippie about this. She knew Bugs very well is pretty upset because the news and the papers said alcohol was a factor. Everybody needs to know that Bugs stopped drinking months ago and alcohol was not a factor in his crash. His Fiance' Brenda was in front of him in her buggy and thought Bugs was right behind her, but he had crashed into the hillside. Stories are flying but the most likely cause was a heart attack.
