The right way to do it in Ohio is get it Inspected. You will need a windshield and a mechanical Emergency brake.

The way your doin it will work temporailly, If you crash it the insurance company can denie the claim. The exuse they will use is that its not a "beetle" as titled. There was a thread on here about this same subject awhile back. If you want to do it do it right, people are so happy to sue no a days that its not worth risking everything you own. Consider yourself lucky I wish I could drive mine on the street but Pa sucks.

yeah, be glad that you have the ability to at least get it legal, here in wv we have so many hoops to jump through now it is impossible to do it and still call it a buggy.back in the mid 70's it was alot less hassle but everybody starting pushing the limits so they cracked down and shut us out completly,if you all don't want the same thing to happen in OH then don't mess it up.you know all it will take is one illegal buggy to get hit wouldn't even have to be your fault and then you lose everything you own and every person that owns a buggy gets a black eye over it.jmo, didnt mean to high jack the thread just think it would be something to think about.chad

I have mine street legal in GA (formerly Titled in VA) and it is a lot of fun. I went through the mess of inspections and paperwork and it is well worth the hassle. I drive my kids to school and run around town whenever it is nice.

The best part is that I know I am completely legal. Every once in a while, a cop will follow me for a mile or two. I can only guess that he is running my plates. After a few miles, he always turns around or pulls off. It would really stink if I had to hide everytime I saw a cop in fear of getting a ticket or hassled about my registration.

My make = Specially Constructed
Body/Type = Dunebuggy

Good Luck

Not only is that illegal but, as mentioned, your insurance company can deny any claim if you have an incident.

my buggy is titled in ohio as a 68 beetle. I told my insurance company up front that it was a buggy and gave them pictures of it. they preferred i had a winshield which i do. its lexan and i take it out when trail riding. my old snap on dealer says the dmv retyped his beetle tiltle to say buggy. going through state patrol inspection is a long process and and they will be very picky. progresive drive is only insurer i could get to insure me by being honest about what the car realy was but they cant say they didnt know what it was, they have pictures. liability costs me aprox 33 a month.Image muffler, tail, turn and brakelamps and below with street friendly rolling stock. me and my girlfriend drive it on nice days and to cruise ins and went on an all veh poker run once. i drive it to work when i can. the police havent harassed me yet and the couple ive talked to face to face just think its cool.Image
