I bought a new shift rod and bushing i installed my bushing in the shift box and then installed bushing on transmission and adjuster when i noticed they were different heights at the shifter box it's 2 1/4 center and at the adjuster when it's level it's 2 3/4 center at the trans so do i just bend the rod an d if so what's the best way to do it or should i cut out the shifter box and raise it up till it's level thanks in advance

I don't think that 1/2" is enough to worry about,,but if your tranny is tilted it may be more binding,,if so maybe you should lower the shifter box and at that time line it up with the tranny. good luck

yea just bend the shifter rod up a 1/2 inch about 6 or 7 inches from the bushing on the tranny and it should work fine.chad

they make an adapter to put in with that much drop i have one in mine, its a piece of aluminum that goes on the tranny where the coupler goes on then the shifting rod goes in the other end and a bolt tightens it on,and it works good in mine that way the shifter rod stays low to the floor.ill get a pic tommorow.chad

I seen a pic where a coupler was welded on top of the coupler on the rod. I think it was on samba.

thanks everyone but i just got a car trans right now i was thinking when i upgrade to 6 rib if it's higher than the car trans I'm going to have problems anyway so i think I'm going to cut off the shifter box and weld it up level so i know it will work with the car tran and when i do get the money to go six rib i guess i wont have to bend it so much if this sounds like it will work just let me know thanks

I have a adjuster. It's a little different than what gasman is talking about. You can make about a 1" adjustment to the shifter length and a 360 deg. adjustment on the rotation. It made setting up my shifter 100 times easier. Here's the link
http://www.mooreparts.com/store/product/4113/AC710002L/
Also when I switched to a bus tranny I just welded the shifter box in on a slight angle. Since my shift rod is about 2 1/2 feet long the angle is so slight you cant tell.

yeah that's the same adjuster i got so do you think since it's only 1/2 an inch and with that adjuster i dont need to bend my shift rod or raise my shift box?

If it's only a 1/2 inch, it might work without bending it. Give it a try. That's the only way to know for shure. :D
