Man this stick went through his fiberglass body, through his seat, and into his butt cheek! He had to dig foam from his seat out of his body. We weren't an hour into the ride before he had to turn around and be driven to the hospital.

DAMNIT!That had to hurt!
Hope he gets well soon!

Gizmo's sister Kim did the same thing once. She didnt go to Dr. for a while and ended a month later pulling out a piece of wood from the infected injury in the back of her leg.

This happens more than you think. I've had it happen to me and Angela had it happen to her this past weekend. Wasn't this bad, but it can happen real easy.

this is sorta off topic but we were riding dirtbikes about 8 years ago and my dad had one go i by his air pipe and started poking through the skin back behind his ear he had to be life flighted he did survive but they had to slice him open across his neck and do some quick surgery because his wind pipe was starting to swell shut to were he couldnt breath so yes sticks are very scary

Hes lucky the fiberglass slowed the stick down. I am a firm beliver of being surrounded by metal in my Buggy for that very reason. Glad hes ok.

Really sorry to see that. Restraint systems are so extremly Important with our Hobby. I see to many people not using them or not using them correctly. Rule of thumb, if you can breath when you put them on they are to loose!

omg. Such a senseless and unecessary tragedy.

WTF is up with people who dont/wont wear belts, or wear them all loose??????  You dont look cool. If you cant breathe in a harness, get the hell out the vehicle and get another hobby. Get a quad or bike if the belts bother you that much. At least you might get away from it if it goes over. Matter of fact, stay out of the woods altogether. I'd prefer you were a tree-hugger, we dont want you on our side of the battle. You may just end up a statistic for the benefit of those who want to stop all of us from riding

I even see jackasses with kids in their laps and no belts in buggies and Jeeps from time to time. If you are one of these people , remember you have no right to endanger that child who doesnt know any better. I dont care if you're on a gravel road in your own front yard, strap the kid in. Would you leave a loaded handgun laying on the kitchen table unsupervised around your kid???? Not much difference.

Sorry for the rant, it just makes me boil because it hurts the ones left behind more than they hurt themselves. They are dead, they dont have to deal with it, the rest of us do. I lost a good friend this way. He always wore his and preached it more than even me, but the one time he took off without it, trying to catch the group he was with, it got him.

Very sorry for your loss. Unfortunately I know how it feels all too well, there is something very different about the way it feels to lose someone before their time in a riding accident than it does to lose others. More sickening to the stomach.

we lost three buggy riders here last year alone, that was one of the worst years for buggy related accidents, not to mention every single one of them had seat belts in them, two of them was not wearing them and one just had his lap belt on and hit a tree head on from being lost in the dust.two of these guys i knew and one i knew very well, and yes they died from ignorance they had the chance to put their belts on right and CHOSE not to and unfortunatly paid the ultimate price for it.but kybuggy1 is correct in saying that alot more people are hurt by these actions than what you think.family ,freinds, loved ones and so on,but it hurt's the buggy community as a whole,it was not that guy ,or that girl ,or that idiot that got killed. it was that buggy rider!and that is what is remembered and when it happens it spreads through like wildfire and everybody has heard about it and every time it is mentioned,it is always that buggy rider.so if you don't care about yourself or the freedom we have to ride, then sell the damn thing or put a set of belts on when you ride.because no matter how safe you think you are things happen, that's why they are called accidents.you maybe the safest person in the world but when i come flying up over a hill and hit you head on at just say 25mph and you don't have a belt on,i'm going to be sore but your going to be a lot worse if not dead, and you thought you was being safe, but if you want to be,then use every option avalible.sorry to rant on about this but i get a little personal about this subject.when we was at wellsville there was a guy that went by in a jeep and he looked exactly like one of mine friends that died last year on a buggy, exactly thay say everybody has a twin well this guy was his to a tee,and it put cold chills on me they was a few standing there and i had to walk off bout lost it for a second it kinda got to me.so it does effect everyone in some way that rides a buggy.chad :(

I feel out of place without my belts on. Even moving it around the garage it feel weird haha. Yes I hope this at least helps one person out so her death wasn't a total loss. She made the best pep rolls on the trails ever, the first time I met her she just HAD to go for a buggy ride haha hooked into Jeeps and other stuff ever since. Wasn't a super close friend but a pretty nice trail buddy :(
