ok guys heres what happened, the inside splines on my torsion housing have stripped out.I recently put a set of new 28mm bars in and have rode it pretty hard but no more than i usaully do.heres my question, you guy's that run with out them do you have to have really stiff coil overs or does anybody run airbags with out torsion bars and if so what do you have.i really don't want to cut it out and weld an adjustable in if i can run with out them with out spending a fortune. i have a set of race runners threaded body's but no spring on them they are the 2.0 5/8 shaft 12" stroke, with remote resivore, they came off the front of another buggy but would these be big enough to put on the back if i put springs on them,or could i just put air bags on and use the fox shocks im running now, they have 260# of nitrogen in them now, with remotes.just trying to get a little info to see what to do.i did this last night and limped home at 3am and have already took the torsion bars out so im ready for the next move.i want to be riding quick to work the bugs out before willies ride so throw some stuff at me guy's.thanks chad

Air bags are probly the chaepest way to fix it other than welding in new stuff

is there a certain brand or size that is used,i no nothing about what everybody is running.have paid attention and seen the way most have set them in but about the diffrent sizes and stuff and what kind of air pressure im i looking at using.ive seen some kits for sale in jegs and they have like a 1000#,2000# and a 5000# system.and do you guys run the leveling kits or just a compressor and gauges.thanks.chad

I get most of my stuff on ebay. #2600 seems good,,there are different sizes as far a width and length..see what will fit. Use a compressor with reservoir tank and gauges to get the spring you need. I like bags because you can add or take away prestress easy. comes in handy all the time on and off the trails. But since you have them nitrogen shocks can't you just eliminat the torsion and use spring plate eliminator kit and adjust your spring with nitrogen?

I run airbags, like them a bunch. I always suggest using the largest bag you can fit in and make work.

thank's guy's for the advice.i've liked the idea of airbags ever since i seen them on a buggy.as far as my shock's go marty i don't know what kinda pressure it would take to keep my buggy up and ride good, and i really don't have any idea of what the max pressure i can put in them is either.i bought 4 of them for $200 couldnt pass that deal up and was told they had 260# of nitrogen in them, who knows if thats what they got or not,i know it took all of my 280lb weight to shove them down.is this something i could do is just put more nitrogen in them.does anybody run the fox 2.0 race shocks without coil overs and no torsion bar's, and if so what kinda pressure you got in them?any info is great, thank's.chad

Your shocks are emulsions and will not hold up the Buggy. You will need torsions, air bags or a set of air shocks to go along with them. TThey are designed to hold up the weight.

If the body of the shock is threaded you would just need the springs and hardware. With the proper springs and nitrogen pressure the coil overs will definitely hold the buggy up. If they are just emulsion shocks without the coil over spring provision you will not be able to hold the weight of the buggy but they would work well in conjunction with air bags or even torsion bars.

Cut it out and weld in a new center! Hell you can have it done it couple hours and may cost ya 50.00 Lot easier than redesigning a whole setup and buying more stuff that may or may not suit your buggy properly.

i never did like torsion bars. i use the fox nitrogen shocks, they work so good. but if i do it again, i think i would try airbags, i heard alot of good things about them.

ok guys i got the old ones i took out and put them up against the new ones and theres no need to mic them you can see clearly they are not close to being the same OD,the splines are more flattened out on the tops and are no where near as deep. once agian i have waisted time and money on something thats going to cost me more time and money.i went back in the archives and found that i am not alone on this, latest rage will be getting a serious phone call tommorow,i do not think that i would have used these if i had sized them up beside my old ones or would have read up on them here first, but never agian will i buy something without asking this site or checking the archives for insight on a product or task that i want to try, theres no way that the time it would have taken to ask or read would be any longer than redoing something or the cost of doing it twice.thank all of you all for posting your info for i am one who is going to take notes, good or bad, might even disagree at times but at least it gets you to think about it in a way that you may have not thought of.thanks guys, chad

i got my airshocks from down south motor sports. the front ones were $ 214 a piece with free shipping. on the back, i run the 2.0 fox shocks with emulsion shocks. at first i ran them with rancho shocks and they did alright and then i bought the pro comps and it made a big difference. but the pro comps were 200 bucks each. you have a four seater with more weight, if you go with the fox shocks, you might want to look at the 2.5 i think those are over 300 bucks a piece. im running 400 psi in my shocks, and i talked to a couple of people and they say thats about normal. like i said, you have a heavier buggy, air bags might be a good choice, you might want to ask some of the guys with the bigger four seaters what they have. as far as the shocks softening up, if you keep the same amount of oil, and the same air pressure, they shouldnt soften up, they stay the same. mine sat all winter and i didnt loose anything, it stayed the same. and if you invest in the nitrogen shocks, you should invest in a nitrogen tank and regulator, thats another thing to think of.

about a week ago, i was talking to odykunck, and he was saying that he wants to run the torsion bars and the fox shocks. so that might be another option for you. that way you use most of the shock to support the buggy, and the torsion for the little bit of extra help. that way you can stay with the 2.0 shocks.

i run the slam specialties re-6 double convulated bags on my 2 seater, you rode behind me at wellsville, you could see how they did. I LOVE them and my buggy rides like a caddy... I highly suggest the slam specialties if you are going to use bags, they bolt into the same pattern as firestones, but they DO NOT EXPAND when they compress, meaning you can get them out further or in tighter places for better geometry so you can run less PSI. My 23 cents

thanks jeff what kinda travel do you have with those, how tall are they fully compressed and fully extended and where did you get them.i was looking at buying a bag called the powerhouse by fabtech they are 3.25" compressed and 13"extended and 7"diameter are used on big lifted trucks 159.00 a pair also 1/2"single port is this a good choice has anybody seen these or know of a bag with this kind of travel that is better.chad
