Im goin to cut the towers off my ball joint beam and make some on the frame so i can run bigger shocks etc,,, My only question is do i want the shock straight up and down when mounted? or angled a bit

If that's what you want to do, lean them as far forward as you can get them at max down travel. Maybe add a little clearence for different size/make shocks. Also set it up so when the wheel stops, in both extremes of it's travel, the shock has about 1/2" more to go.

I did mine like mike said. You need to watch out because I only have 3/8" clearance from my shocks hitting my front arms at full extension. Wish I could have slid the towers back 1/2" but then they will hit the tie rods when turned to the max. Might want to think about mounting them on the upper arm to avoid any clearance issues, but then you need tall towers.

thanks for the info guys, im sure ill have a few more questions as i do this, hopefully have it done for the 4th of july , As for leaving it stock.....What fun is that! Im just tryin to improve my buggy the best i can with what i got, and I got tubing layin here, plus the new shock towers will look COOL!

i was always told to shoot for a 90 degree relationship between the arm and the shock at full compression. ...That is, if the tie rods and arms both clear.

Hey those bolts have been in there for 2yrs!! not a problem hahaha, The rear suspension is getting tweeked b4 the 4th of july also, although after moving those shocks it did ride much much nicer, I wll get it ridin nice SOMEDAY, (NITRO)-We cant all afford radiators and coilovers!!! hahaha Mr fany pack jacket!!! coolest thing ive ever seen and the tan lines are even funnier

Bill you are correct, but because of the upper tursion tube, getting to that 90* isn't going to happen. That's the reason some are going off the top arm for the lower shock mount.

I would run them straight up and down, that is the way the front beams were made for the Baja 1000 buggies in certain classes, I am running limit straps on the front so I don't have to worry about the front shock bottoming out at full droop, with it the way it is now, I have about 12-14" of wheel travel at the hubs, I think that is plenty for me because I got around pretty good with the coil-over suspension and it rides like a dream.
