Recently got a woods buggy, has the old swingarm style axle in it. I've been told the only way I can go to IRS is to completely replace the rear-end, so now I'm looking for a bug to be a donor car. As I understand it I'll need to change the transmission also as the axle are different. So if anyone has a old bug that would have the parts I need and want to part with it, pm me a price and location. Or if someone has a better way to change it over, please let me know. I have no issues with replacing the whole rear end, but if theres an easier way. . .

instead of cutting out the whole torsion houising, buy these trailing arm mounts and weld them on.

Ahh cool. Yeah we actually have a place that deals with VW's here in town, but they're very proud of their parts. Too proud. Lol.

Still looking for a bug, decided I could use the front brakes off one too, as my buggy has rear only. Even though they're drum, they'll work until I have the extra funds to go disc.

Chances are they might be a bit higher but they will probably sell you the right part the first time.
No return shipping hassles.

On the donor car, an IRS car will have a ball joing front end if it isn't a Super Beetle.
The front brakes off that front end will likely not fit yours.
Since you have a swing axle rear, I'd almost bet your have a link pin front beam.
Those never came on an IRS car so the brakes you speak of won't work if you indeed have a link pin front.
if you have a ball joint currently............nevermind.......

You will have to clip the front of the frame where it clamps on to change it out.
Ball joint beam tubes where the torsion slats are located are further apart than a king pin.
Can't remember exactly but 1-1/2" comes to mind.

I'm gonna swap my king pin out for a ball joint front end. They are a bit wider (an inch or so), so I am going to cut out the top bar and replace it with one with the correct bend. I would rather have the ball joint front end because they are pretty much disc brake ready, cheap to replace ball joints, and stay tight longer. My king pin front end is a constant source of enjoyment, anytime I need anything to do I can find something it needs. :D

I know it's not a popular option but a bus ball joint front end with some modifications is wide and strong. Use drop spindles from a ball joint type 1 and get height gain and use disc . But it's a little heavy,,,good way to add weight tot he front end if you need it though.

Ok, I've acquired a 71 VW superbeetle. It has the irs, so think I'm good there. Now it has a coilspring front end, will the front brakes work off it on a kingpin setup?

So should I swap out the steering box and tie-rods? My buggy has the stock '67 box and linkage.
