LISBON - An additional drug charge has been filed against a Wellsville man accused of having a meth lab on his Yellow Creek Township property earlier this year.
The Columbiana County grand jury issued a superseding indictment Thursday against Peter Barta II, 36, of 21307 Sixteen School Road, who had already been indicted in January for illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony, along with a forfeiture specification for two parcels of land measuring 66 acres and 79 acres where his property was located.
In the new indictment, the grand jury tacked on an additional third-degree felony charge of possession of drugs, including the forfeiture specification for the land, besides including the original charge and forfeiture request.
The indictment alleged Barta stored chemicals, equipment and materials to make the drug methamphetamine on his property on Jan. 9 and intended to use the land parcels as the site for a meth lab. Documents also alleged he possessed the drug methamphetamine, smoking devices, a scale with meth residue, beakers and some chemicals.
The grand jury issued a total of three superseding indictments, six open indictments and 11 secret indictments after meeting for two days this week.
