I know were i can get a whole rearend torison, trans, axles, and the gear reduction drum to drum everthing for 100 bucks i was wandering if this was a good deal or not? Also would this be worth putting in my buggy i have swingaxle now and was going to go with bus and irs but i was wandering for a 100 bucks if i should go with this? ALso would the trans with the gear reduxs be any stronger than a regular car trans and should this bolt to my excisting motor and torison? Thanks for all the help. O yeah the motor is just a 1600 dual port thanks again.

the ring gear is a 4:37 and the redux makes it a high something. would make the car sit up about 3" higher or longer on how you put it in. you'll have to run the drum brakes. and they are heavy. not realy a whole lot of pros with it.but it is a cheaper way to go then a bus right now.

I had one in my buggy a few years ago and there is a lot of custom work that has to be done as the gear reduction is wider than a swing axle. I put the boxs on a 45 degree angle and it still hopped alot when you go up a hill. They will jerk a crick in your neck they are so bad. The bus tranny irs is more money but you will be a lot happier with this set up. I took mine out and sold it on ebay. If you wanted to buy it and sell it you could make some money on it and put it towards your bus. I think mine sold for $250.00 they are very rare. I have never seen any other for sale on ebay other than the one I sold and I live in KY and a guy from Michigan drove all they way to KY to pick it up. Hope this helps you.

My Dad has a gear box buggy. It is wicked sometimes...most of the time he complains about how stiff it is. Hard to get the funny frog jumping out of it,,and virtually impossible to soften the suspension or gain travel. But it is unique and he has outclimbed me a time or two. It is more of a novelty than a tried and proven setup. If it's cheap and easy,,go for it and find out for yourself...If you want to save yourself some trouble and money,,go IRS. :idea: Or better yet,,,do both,,,remember,,,,any buggy is better than no buggy :!:

They use this type in swamp buggys back in La where we used to live .they work real good in water and mud because when you dump the clutch the baha bug jumps strait up ,the tires bow in under it and grab on the inside of the ruts and away you go.They run a rad hose in the back seat of the bug to the solex carb so they will run under water they are cool to see. I would get it and list it just to see you never know

I ran a reduction set-up in my buggy for 10 years. It was pretty cool and would do some cool things. It would not climb a hill very well though. You had to learn how to make it do what you wanted it to do. It was awesome for rooting through the mud!
If I were you, I would skip the chance to use this and do the switch to IRS. The redux set-up is not a direct bolt in to your current swingaxle. You will have to do quite a bit of work to use it. Plus, if you break it, you will have to find parts and this can take weeks! :roll:

The IRS is definitely the way to go.

Roy is right,, also,,,,it may be about as easy to swap torsion housing as it it to modify the swingaxle torsion housing too :wink: you need a jig to locate the pivot brackets before welding them in. I changed mine from swingaxle to IRS,,but don't do like I did,,I called myself cleaning up the torsion tube but cutting off the riser that the body bolts to,,,big mistake,, it should be used because if it is used the torsion will more likely stay in place. :oops:

I have to disagree with some of you guys. I have been running the piss out of my bug for three years now with absolutely no problems with the reduction boxes. Other than less travel than an IRS it works great. The torque is unreal and the suspension is smooth and soft. I have 16 in. of clearance with two people in the car and it climbs real good. Gear reduction at the wheels reduces the load on the transaxle that is why the monster trucks do it, without it they snap their drive shafts. I am running a rather unique no hop kit that totally eliminates the hop. With this kit the axle tubes slide through a tube stiffener that is bolted to the spring plates. The redux boxes have an arm that connects to the torsion bar tube. ImageImageImage

I used to run one in an old buggy i had we called it the frog because the way it hopped.I took it out and throwed it in the barn and a buddy needed a closed tranny so i told him to just go get one and he took that one and put it in his buggy with his car axles, not smart,he got it in jumped in the buggy throwed it in reverse dumped the clutch to back out of the garage and drove it straight into his new tool chest and drove it through the wall.lol.it runs 4 reverse gears and one forward .I guess the ring and pinion are flipped or something to make the gear reducers turn forward.I still lmao when i think about him doing that. :mrgreen:
