Post subject: tie rod end question
PostPosted: Tue Dec 16, 2008 4:34 pm
In the process of finishing rail bug. The current tie rod end I have (passenger inner) will not fit, due to the Pitman arm mount stud being too short (about 1/2" length). The old tie rod end has about a 1" mount stud. Since I'm not quite sure of the year on steering box/front beam, would someone enlighten me as to the correct year tie rod end I need to order. Thanks.

I think you have a ball joint tie rod and a link pin steering box maybe

so if I ordered a tie rod end for '67 or earlier (link pin), would the threaded end screw into the ball joint tie rod I have?

The threaded portion of the tie rod end and tie rod internal threads are all 14mm x 1.5mm thread pitch.
The king pin style tie rod end was used on all king pin beams and ball joint beams up to about mid '68.
After that the taper on the tie rod end that fits into the spindle and the pitman arm got larger.
Those were used on all the components of the later ball joint beams.
