I've got a '97 honda trx300fourtrax utility fourwheeler. The neutral safety switch went out on it the other day and it is a pain in the butt to fix so I'd like to just wire around it. The plug has three wires blue with a yellow tracer/Green/yellow with gray stripes. Anyone have any idea what ones I need to be working on for the thing to think it is in neutral all the time? I've searched my butt off online and haven't found anything useful so far......

Any help would be appreciated. 8)

I found this. Any idea what I need to do to bypass the neutral safety switch and make it run?

What color is the "Lg" that it is showing in the diagram?

light green I don't know but the safety switch either grounds when in neutral or becomes open
so go to the switch disconect the wire and ground it if it cranks TA DA and if not un ground it TA DA either way one way should work
ps
I like saying TA DA 8)

How about a Suzuki? It is nice! LOL I have a 750 AXI King Quad and it runs awesome for a single-cylinder big bore.

Polaris sucks. I have one, and had nothing but problems with it. I have 6 more payments on a 250 Suzuki Ozark, when I'm done with that, I'm getting rid of the junk Polaris and getting a King Quad.

I used to be a big Honda supporter but they have really fallen behind in the past few years. It is hard not to buy one of their utilities that doesn't have drum brakes on the back. There is no excuse for a machine built after 1990 to have drum brakes anywhere on it. If I were to buy a new one tomorrow it would be a Yamaha. After that I would look at a Can-am, Kawasaki/Suzuki, Polaris and then maybe Honda. The hondas just don't have the PROVEN technology that the other makes have had for years. They are durable and probably are the best all-work atv out there but for me they just don't have the things that I am looking for. :?

I may be making this too hard on myself. The plug has three prongs in it so I have been assuming that they all have something to do with the neutral safety. After looking at the diagram again and with what you said I may have been totally out of whack. I'm going to try just grounding the one wire to the frame.

Amen to that!! I never liked Polaris, I just don't like the style of the machine....I know that Suzuki is made in Japan, but I want a machine that will run forever, I had a 2003 Suzuki Vinson and ran it for 5 years and 3300 miles before I got rid of it and never had any problems with it and it stills runs as good as I bought it new. I just needed a bigger quad so I got a 2008 King Quad

A Grizz is probably what I'll get next time around.

So I tried the idea of grounding the wire and it didn't work. I also cut each of the three wires thinking the circuit needed to be open, nothing there either. I'd love to find someone who could tell me "take this wire and do this" but apparently they are getting hard to come by.

I wouldn't swear that it is but it is the only thing that I know that it could be. I can put it in neutral and the dash light doesn't come on, as soon as I click it down into reverse the reverse light comes on. Pop it back up into neutral an the light on reverse goes out but the neutral doesn't come back on.

according to that wiring diagram, when the switch is in neutral, the "lg" wire is going through the switch and then to ground. so to bypass the switch you should just hook up the lg wire to ground. if that doesn't work then you have something else wrong. I don't know if that is the correct diagram for this bike though. I am a motorcycle mechanic but unfortunately we don't have the service manual here for that quad. I don't know why that diagram is only showing 2 neutral safety switch wires when you say that it has 3.

It shows two neutral switches (Items 22) and a another one listed as "Sensor" (Item 23) so thats where my 3 wires are coming from but danged if I know what they do?

according to my book, there are 3 posts that stick out of the case the 2 that are together are te reverse an neutral switches -- the one that is seperate ( probably 23 ) is the oil temp sensor -- try putting that all back together and cut the lg wire before the plug--- splice a wire to it and ground it that should bypass it

Is lg supposed to mean light green? There is a wire that is dark green but no light green and I tried grounding it to the - on the battery.
