 Post subject: motor qustion

ok im running a 2276 as of now and as most of you know it went for a swim at curts hill climb..... :roll: :oops:

i washed it out with disel and its all good now just some sand got the rings a bit and jugs so it smokes sum... im going to let it go for now but after the holidays im going to go through it and fresshing it up

my qustion is what would it take to go to a 2387 and is it worth it.....????

one of the main parts that cost so much is the crank so if you are going to go to the expence of a new crank get a 90 stroke make it a 2500 .a 2387 is a 86 stroke why stop there. I would just build what you have a good running 2276 is not a bad thing just my 2 cents

ahhaha um ill say it was a veary dum cold mistake!!!! :oops:

i was following some others and they took a trail around the mud hole ( more of a pond to me) and i missed it , i saw someone else go through but they had boggers i would say 35 38s and i only got 31 v treds and it didnt go so well when it slid into the deep part i nailed it thinking the tires would clean out and hook and get me out but i forgot it was a vw motor not my mud truck ..... :roll: :oops:

needless to say it swamped the motor , some how the oil was filled with mudd (who knows how that got there) i decided not to ruin my motor and never cranked it till i got home and flushed it out really good . when i pulled the carbs the bowls barly had room for gas due to all the mud......


lesson learned..... YEA!!! run wat ever you have to over to avoid all water and mud hazzerds :mrgreen:

oh yea by the time we had pulled it out all the mud was frozen to my jacket ugh!!! it was cold oh well my stupidity

Cranks get expensive after 84mm stroke.
Yeah as mentioned why stop at 86, 90 isn't that much more.
Be sure to get a 90 full circled if you order one.

I have seen where guys take a 90mm crank in a factory block and they clearanced the case so much they had to put JB weld on top of the case where it was clearanced so it won't be too thin in that area, I 'd rather just buy a Scat killer case that is designed to run a 90mm crank so I don't have to worry about it. I have seen a 2276 that will outrun a 2500 at D&K and that is Pipedope's buggy and his engine is very stout and powerful for a 2276cc, hell, I have a 2276cc and his runs better than mine WHT? :? If I am going to run a 2500 or 2800 something, I would definitely get a killer case for sure with a flanged crank option.

A 2276cc will be more than plenty for you, that way you can go fast on the trails if you wanted to and climb hills without bogging it down too bad, it will be your best bet for a stroker engine and not too $$$$$ and it will pull a stock 6-rib just fine, I had mine re-geared for a little higher 1st and lower 2nd and it is still plentyful.

For what it would cost to build a cobbled together 2500 you could build a 2276/2332 that'll dust most everything it comes across. A 2276 that has been put together by someone who knows (and cares) what they are doing is a sight to behold. Eric Debords 2332, Pipedopes 2276, and my brother Eddies 2276 will cause you to leave a shit streak in your underwear if you ever go for a ride. Those are just ones that I am familiar with, you know the saying, "There is always someone badder than you are.", I'm sure it applies here. Spend the money for the good stuff to go in your '76 and in a few years the price might come down on parts to make a quality 2500.

Just my opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has got one, most of 'em stink. :lol:

If you plan on going to a 2500, you need to plan on a 2nd gear tranny, too. One is useless without the other for hillclimbing. I was sick when I went to my 2500 from a very good running 2387, UNTIL Chuck built me a tranny with the right gearing for it.
My tranny was a high first , low second stock r&p 6rib. Too much spin in first, not quick enough recovery in second.
A 4:56 r&p regular buggy with a well built stroker of any displacement on it will smoke a 2nd gear tranny 2500 on flat ground, but on a 'drivers' hill its always the other way around.

The r&p is same ratio as 3 rib, but I dont know what the gears are.
Price depends on what you have to start with and if just want 1st/2nd upgraded, or all of them and new everything inside. His labor is very reasonable. I wouldnt even pull a tranny for his labor fee to build one.

A 90mm crank will fit into a CB raised deck aluminum case with little additional work.
The raised deck options will allow you to run a longer rod without having to stack a bunch of shims under the cylinders.
If you mock up your build with the longer cylinders and do the math correctly you can machine the cylinders to the exact length you need.
It's possible to build one a 2498cc engine without shims at all doing it that way.
