Why not for thenext hillclimb we do two classes. Conventional and non-conventional. Conventional bein buggies like youre typical buggy, and non-conventional being buggies like hollywoods, curts, rocks, nc's, etc, you catch the drift. Just a simple idea, and with each event we can expand classes from there. Please no one take this the wrong way.

I guess we will have to do it like fighting the last one standing is the winner keep making the hills a little steeper to the last on on top is the winner and keep a ambulance close by and EMT. know that would be a real hill climb Let's do it.Yell, ready.

I agree with Gizmo. Keep it simple make 'em steep. Not everyone can win. But just by entering you have become an official hillclimber.
No classes! There are not enogh of us to have classes. Maybe someday but not yet. I don't mind competing against anyone. And there are no comp. only buggies. We need to keep this simple. Just my 2 cents.

I think there are 5 or 6 taleted buggy riders with the equipment the balls and the talent and they have won the events held so far and will in the future also, Some guys have it and most do not just have fun and be safe, dont turn or hobby in to a competition where people build 2nd buggy for competing . my opinon

I think making classes is going to be tough and your never going to please everybody but if /when you do keep them, in our pulling club we now have a few classes that are almost identical because we tried to make people happy so if you make a class keep it or just dont make a difference and drive the hell out of it just a thought!!

One thing that I noticed and even talked to you about it Curt was trash. This is our weekend riding area and I spoke to a few and so did some of the other locals about the trash being tossed on the ground. As you will all notice the place was clean thats because we keep it clean. So maybe some type of trash cans for the trash and beer cans to go in instead of on the ground and trails. Maybe the cans could be used to recycle and proceeds go to a charity or something.

I noticed alot of trash laying around TeePee while clearing hills on friday. I would not call it spotless by any means. I grabbed some stuff and carried it out on friday. I am sure there was some stuff left laying but I didn't see much. Heck you coulda picked it up and pocketed all the huge recycle cash yourself.

Trash is a big issue at most parks. I usually make some effort to take out more than I take in but I will try harder this year. We can build a good reputation with the park owners if they see us cleaning up. It could mean having a place to ride.,,,I guess I stold a thread,,,shame on me.

I have never hosted a hill climb and I have only entered in one so my ideas have no real credibility...

However, I think it would be fun to run different classes with different payouts. All of the entry fees could be the same but the pay out could be very different.. The payout for the easiest class could be significantly less than the payout for the tougher classes. However, you can only sign up for one class.

**** Just an Example *******
If everyone paid a $25 entry fee.......
Class 1 (Easiest) -- $100 / $50
Class 2 (Medium) -- $250 / $200
Class 3 (Hardest) -- $500 / $400

The classes would not be determined by the vehicle, just the determination and experience of the driver. Yes, you could have some awesome buggy steel the easiest class but he would only win $100 bucks..

Just an idea...
Dan

Well guys you could also do like bodybuilding comps do. Different classes then have the winners of each class compete for an overall.

iv looked at all the post and the one that i seen that i liked was none of the above the way that curt did it was the best so far but i do think the points thing needs to be tweeked a little.i was thinking more points for pullin the hill with you first attemt.and not so many points for backin off a hill may be 1/4 of a full pull score.and let the hills even the playing field .

Here is an idea on how to make entry fees fair. Don't charge a fee per se, have a "Calcutta auction" among all the entrants.

This is from wikipedia:
A Calcutta auction is an open auction held in conjunction with a golf tournament,[1] horse race or similar contest with multiple entrants. It is popular in backgammon, the Melbourne Cup, and NCAA Basketball pools during March Madness.

Bidding for each contestant begins in random order, with only one contestant being bid upon at any time. Accordingly, participants (originally in Calcutta, India, from where this technique was first recorded by the Colonial British) bid among themselves to "buy" each of the contestants, with each contestant being assigned to the highest bidder. The contestant will then pay out to the owner a predetermined proportion of the pool depending on how it performs in the tournament. While variations in payoff schedules exist, in an NCAA Basketball tournament (64 teams, single elimination) the payoffs could resemble the following schedule: 1 win - 0.25%, 2 wins - 2%, 3 wins - 4%, 4 wins - 8%, 5 wins - 16%, tournament winner with 6 wins - 32%.

An interesting element of Calcutta auctions is in determining an appropriate wager for each contestant, as the payoff will directly hinge on the size of the pot and thereby the size of the bids being placed. Thus the value of each team fluctuates during the course of the betting. For example, even if a bidder knew the Tar Heels would be the tournament winner and thus pay out 32% of the pool, she would still be unsure of the exact value of the team (unless it was the last team being bid on) since the payout depends on the sum total of all winning bids, i.e. the final size of the pool.

This is similar to parimutuel betting, in that the winnings are awarded from the total pool of bets, but differs in that only one player can bet on any one contestant. However, a player may purchase as many contestants as they desire.

Ok did anyone on here get into this sport for Prize-Money? I know I didn't. So why all the concern? Run what ya brung, have fun, learn from the guys that beat ya, then modify like hell to do better next time. I know there are guys with bigger budgets then mine. I dont expect to go to a Pro-Race of any kind and win against big money outfits, but would be cool to compete. Just like running the Baja 1000. No way I could win, doubt I could finish, but how cool to run that race and hang out with ANY of the big dogs! So forget the money and just have fun for bragging rights and the opportunity to see what everyone else is running. And see what works and what doesnt. Hell I'm just happy to get 4 buggies that want to ride the same weekend around here. And once I get a better tow rig I'll make the long haul down south. Ok, who's next on the soap box?

Very good points! I knew when I entered the contest I didn't stand a chance, but like nitro said I did it to have a good time. It would have drove me crazy to just stand there and not climb anything.

I also knew when I entered that DVS1 was not gonna win.
