I was taking the 5 rib out of my donor buggy. And on the passenger side hub they was a whole in the center. What would cause this and what is the fix? It looks like the axle has been hitting it. Thanks for any advice
Here is a pic

I've seen this before on my buggy too. Seems that the frame bending, braking, shifting, etc may cause a correct length axle to rub the plug.

What length trailing arms?
Stock torsion?
Bus or Bug?
What CV joints?
Stock or aftermarket axles?
What length axles?

I use 18-3/4" for 2x3 and 19-1/4" for 3x3s.
That might be the issue.

Does that just get a plastic cap over it?

It's more of a plug than cap.
#14 in this diagram.

3 and 5 rib take the same plug.
6 rib and Vanagons are different.

Terry, I put on red RTV silicone on it, those blue caps are liable to come off anytime and let gear oil leak out even though you can't see it unless you take the CV off of it to look at it. It is recommended by Eric DeBord. Also it looks like your are running too long set of axles, just like turboblue said 2x3=18-3/4 3x3=19-1/4.

If you take the axles out to replace with 18 3/4, I'll buy the old ones
