I'm running 3x5's with a vanagon transmission. The 3x5's give you a wierd number. I had to buy some custom ones and cut them. I can't remember what length I had to go with, but it's definitely not any of the standards, wish I got 4x5's. :?

I had heard that Sway-Away will make any length you need.

I believe the custom made lengths are expensive. If you set up your buggy the way you want with the tranny centered, and tilted, or whatever, and the trailing arms you want to run mounted and lined up good . You can measure the axle and find something very near on the shelf at Dan's performance or where ever you prefer. A good way to measure for length is to put your flanges on the tranny,,and the stub axles in the arms,,get them level to each other. Then measure and subtract a half inch.,or maybe 3/8" some say 1/4 but I think that is not enough. If necessary for about a half inch clearance you can cut with a chop saw. I even made new groove on the shortened end. Cut from the end that is not marked R, or L. I made new groove with a cut off wheel,, A lathe is better.I got mine from Dans,,,they got some good prices,,,oh yea,,,use the 930 if possible too.,,,just my suggestion

Yeah, basically what i did, but I found some sway-a-way's that someone had for sale on the samba.com (never used), and cut them on a bandsaw, then put new grooves in them with a lathe. Just make sure you measure 20 times, mark it, measure your mark 5 times, then cut once, haha.

as long as you stay 28" and under on your axle legnth, you can usually find them for around $200. DON'T go over 28"!!! it starts getting expensive there! I found that out the hard way. Oh, yea, I am refering to 930 axles, but I think bus axles are about the same, if not cheaper.
