I just spent the weekend in Washington D.C. There was alot there to remind me of why this country is great. And none of it had to do with having your hand out. I was talking to a guy the other day and he told me that he has "had to work hard to make a living since George Bush has been in office". That was a complaint! Hell I have worked hard since I was 18 and plan to do it till I die. I bet a few of you do also. He thinks that everything is going to come up roses as soon as Obama soaks his rich bosses. He won't open his eyes and realize that he works for those rich bosses and maybe once Obama soaks them they won't be able to afford him. I don't get this way of thinking I just want the government to leave me alone. Only take what they need and spend it wisely. The conversation ended with him calling me a rich Republican. I am not rich. Far from it. Heck I am just a construction worker. That guy in the vest working on the highway. But you know I thought about that conversation all weekend. Maybe in a way I am rich, or at least better off than him. I realize that if I am going to be happy and enjoy a good life it is up to me. No one else but me. So I do what it takes to make it happen. He is waiting for the government to take care of him. Instead of looking at what opportunity is out there he is going to cast his vote for Obama and wait.
While standing in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier yesterday morning, I wasn't thinking about how easy I do or don't have it. I was looking around me at the graves of 320,000 men and women who have served and died to make this country free. They didn't die so we could have free healthcare, or work less and earn more, they gave there lives so we could be free. Keep that in mind when you think about what the government should give you. You are wanting handouts while those brave soldiers died for what they wanted, freedom. I think you will honor their sacrifice by going out and taking advantage of the freedom you now have. I think they would heartbroken to hear that we are waiting for handouts.

How did JFK's party get so far away from his beliefs?
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.

I couldn't agree more! It's about having the OPPORTUNITY to make something of yourself, not the RIGHT to have everything provided for you.
Republicans, get out and vote, and vote proudly!
Democrats, get out and vote, and vote often!

The economy is the fault of the people here that could not live on what they made and used credit to buy houses they didnt need and cars they couldnt afford. If you spend more than you make there will be a day of reconing. It is here now for some. If you lived within your means an kept your debt payed down you might be allright If you can keep your job! Is that problem caused by democrat or republician? I say it is greed on the part of those who were not happy with what they could earn an pay for! Now Our government needs to learn that same principal and stop spending money we dont have. Let the chips fall where they may let the lazy starve and the working class thrive. This will fix itself after we pay off our debts and learn to live within our means IMHO

This make me think of a conversation I had with one of my deckhands this morning. He it's my fault he's not making more money, because of what my wages are. He fells to relize i had to spend 7 1/2 years doing whathe does before i got where i am. i said something to him about putting in the extra time and work that it takes to improve in pay and postion his answer of coarse was i don't have the time, besides why should i have to put in extra effort to make more money. He just can not understand that your not going to get a postion over someone that already knows how to do the job when you still need to learn it. this is the problem, people like that thinks things should be just handed to themeven if they are not qualified. this is just my 2 cent

Just like I said....those greedy bastards! Some of you guys may have already read this from the other thread. Sorry for putting it on here, but something needs to be done. I agree 100% with what Curt and Dean said on here....let the rich pay, let the poor starve and get a job and let the middle class thrive from their hard-working, honest jobs and that way things will be more fair. If it keeps going on like this....I might as well move to Canada, "The country where they don't stick their noses into other country's problems and let them take care of themselves."

Re: Gas

I agree with everybody about the economy situation so far...I think the way things are now is the oil company's fault because when people own homes when gas price is around $1.50/gal for a while during the 90's and they had everything set-up to live on what their house payments were and other budgets to live on....and then all of a sudden the prices has been going up very steep since the 9/11 attacks and it forces people to spend more over their gas budget and let other things go because how are you getting to work? Well that leaves them no choice but to try to make a living by letting other things go to make ends meet and then next thing you know they will not have enough money to buy groceries, pay for their mortgages, utility bills, etc causing them to default on the mortgages and causes Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to lose their asses and then a ripple effect from there on. Now the big picture....$700 billion bailout?? Where did they get the money?? That is OUR tax dollars, Why don't the oil companies pay for the bailout with their last 4-year, multi-billion dollar record profits? Why don't they give it back to us the taxpayers in lump sum from wince it came from the first place? That way it will help boost the economy big time by paying off their mortgages, car payments, and other bills? Let the rich suffer from their losses due to the Wall Street market slumping causing them to lose billions of dollars and why do we have to pay for their mistakes that leads us to this because of their greed? I think they should divide the $700 billion up among us the taxpayers and give it back to us instead of helping the rich or just leave the money alone and use it to invest in bringing back our jobs that got shipped over to China and to create renewable energy, that way they can have a better economy by creating more new jobs. Whew....I can just keep on going, but this just simply pisses me off!
