Ody I think any way you open them up will help we used to cut the middle out so each side would clean out on it's own

You are right. Cutting the middle is important to any v tread. A line all the way around the center about 1/4" wide at least. This even needs to be done to 23* 4 plies for flexibility.

Thats different. How much better did it make them? Was it better for all terrain or specifically for mud or hill climbing etc.

If you look at last months BOTM,I think there is a couple pretty close shots of Dakotah's 8 plies, he cut them the same way he cuts 4 plies, except for the side walls are not cut as far down on 4 plies.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Just been overlooking the thread for a couple days and was riding all weekend.

Just a side note: The more he rides on his 8 plies, the better they get. They are getting very flexible and bite like crazy! I wish my tires had the bite his does!Mine only have maybe 5 or 6 rides on them, so it aint like they are shot either. No worries about a flat either, if you got beadlocks, and rims with a wide inside bead, you dont even need any air pressure in them. He can bust up rocky trails with no worries, while I have to carefully pick a way thru trying to protect my 4ply tires. I am convinced there is nothing wrong with 8 plies , except they are a little heavier, but the difference is not enough to matter except on the very most extreme climbs.

No problem. after I got to thinking about it I did just look at Dakotahs pics. They look like they would hook up well. what does he(you, Dakotah) charge to cut them? I know I couldnt do that well and I would probably screw the tire up and throw all the money away. do you purchase the tires yourself and cut them and sell, or does the buyer purcahse the tire, ship to you, cut, and ship back? It may be awhile before i need them just curious. Thanks

Hey Larry can you post up a close up pic of what your v treads look like?

Brad, I'd like to hear your feedback on this one, too. My wife's buggy has cut goodyear 45* tires on it. I know it couldnt hurt them , they absolutely suck in loose stuff. If I could just put Koko to work cuttin out a few lugs on 'em, and save the $500 I'd need to spend for her a pair of Firestone 8 plies....thats two more rides we can go on!!

I need to try them on Topsoil hill to know wether or not splitting the lugs made much of a difference.

I'm begining to think you have a personal vendetta against that hill
