VW Beetle going 115 mph leads deputy on chase
The Denver Post
Article Launched: 09/03/2008 12:30:00 AM MDT

ARAPAHOE COUNTY — A motorist was arrested Monday after briefly leading Arapahoe County deputies on a high-speed chase on Interstate 25.

A deputy near the Dry Creek Road exit at 3:38 p.m. saw a northbound Volkswagen Beetle speed by at about 115 mph, the Sheriff's Office said.

The deputy gave chase until he realized the Volkswagen was not going to stop or slow down.

The deputy backed off but kept driving. Motorists indicated the Volkswagen had exited at East Arapahoe Road, so the deputy got off there.

The Volkswagen had hit the median dividing the on- and off-ramps, and witnesses said the driver ran off. Officials found Nathan Hurlbirt, 27, in a shopping center parking lot.

Man... 115 mph... That is flying... My rail will top out at 86 mph on the highway... But the engine is screaming..

I run an 1835 with a 3 rib trans on 31 in tires and I cannot go any faster than 86 mph..

How fast have you had your buggy?
