I am building a new 1915 for my buggy. What type of sealant does every one use to put the case together. Also, does anyone else have trouble with rear main leaks? I was told the fist time that mine was leaking was because my engine was not vented. I put a new rear main in, and vented my valve covers to my breather. I am still leaking. Ithought since I was building a new motor I would ask for suggestions. My old motor leaked 4 quarts Saturday while riding. At $3 dollars a Quart it adds up.

i use that red "high tack" stuff to seal it up. Iknow you can't use any thing thick, because it will screw up all your bearing tolerences. as for the rear main, tap it in a bit further, just don't bottom it out, and check out your flywheel, where it seals to it. you may need to sand it down it it has any edges.

Any one ever used yamabond? That is the sealer yamaha uses to seal there cases together.

never tried it but im goi ng to next time i have heard nothing but good results from it.

i think that stuff (yamabond) may be a little thick, it will be like shiming your case apart, not so good for your main bearings. My current race motor doesn't have anything sealing it up. Just hopes and dreams

OMC boat motor sealant. $3.99 6oz. very thin, very sticky.
Any marina will have it. RB is correct, nothing thick.

Permatex makes about the same thing. 6oz. can with the brush in the cap.

Permatex aviation form-a-gasket.it comes in a little white bottle with a brush in the cap.As far as your rear main seal leak goes make sure that the drain hole in the bottom of the seal register isn't plugged up.

You might want to consider saving up some extra money and buy a brand new case. It's worth every cent!

I'm with roy if you have the money to spend buy a new case and save youreself some headaches.

I would like to have a new case, but right now it is out of budget. My next big purchase is going to be a new frame. I still have a couple engines to build, before i am out of decent cases. When the new frame is done I would like to have a new case ready for a stroker crank. The case i am using this time is fresh. I just had it line bored for the first time, and cut for 94 jugs. Plan on being on the trail by the end of next week.

I went to the buggy shop this morning in Paducah. I picked up all the parts to put my 1915 together. The owner of the shop said that he used the aviation sealant always, also. He said NAPA was the only place that he new of that carried it. I stopped and bought a can. I will start assembly of the new motor monday.

make sure, the O ring in your fly wheel is good. At one time that had me fooled, i thought it was the main seal. I changed it three times and it still leaked, thats when somebody told me about the o ring on the inside of the fly wheel.

Also make sure you put a lttle RTV sealent around the cam plug before inserting it,especially if you have 1 of those stamped steel ones.I have always done that to mine and never had any problems.Not saying that is the problem,but it could'nt hurt.

The motor is finished. I ran it around the house for about a hour. So far no leaks and ir runs great. I am going to Turkey Bay tomorrow to brake it in. Hopefully all will go well. Thanks for everyones input.

Well the new motor peformed great. One small leak at oil pump, but not enought to worry about. It should be broke in. We rode for about 5 hours. Time to change the oil and get ready fo the next trip.
