i use mine. i have a stalker and dont feel there is enough head room( i should have got the +3). i stll use my helmet though. i was hung up on a rock once turning around on a porweline, got out and moved the front end out of the way of the rock, got back in and continued to turn aroud (no belts on cause i was just turning around to get back to the trail. i hit a ditch that was hidden in the weeds (3-4 feet deep). i hit the roll bar hard enough to crack my helmet. i know i should have put my belts back on but it just shows how fast is can happen. we get comfortable doing what we do and in the end we get careless. i have a friend who wrecked his buggy and crushed his eye socket with belts and a helmet (the buggy got worked pretty hard). some of you guys hill climbing the stuff you do may even consider a horse collar or HANS type device. i have worked at a dirt oval track for twenty years and ive seen wrecks where the driver should have been killed a few times but walked away because of good equipment.

also if u have a helmet if u get to rolling with that extra weight on your head u could really do some damage to your neck so if u wear a helmet i would say also some kind of neck support

Don't the race car drivers kinda "hook" their helmets to the inside frame of the car because of the centrifugal force? I am not sure how that would work, exactly, but it would be better than cervical damage. :?

My last roll on my 4 wheeler I had my helmet on and it is pretty scared up from the rocks and things that i hit on the way down the hill. That prompted me to get the buggy. I don't wear my helmet in the buggy tho. This is a good topic and it makes sense.

Willie when you start wearing one alot of others will also. I am sure the biggest reason we don't is because we don't want to look like a wimp. But if Willie is wearing one then it must be cool!

I always wore my motocross helmet when I had my rail. I never rolled it but I wanted it on in case I did. I grew up riding dirtbikes and 4 wheelers so I'm used to wearing a helmet. When/if I get my baja done I'll be wearing a helmet when offroad with it. I've known people that have died in 4 wheeler crashes cause they didn't have a helmet on. Baseball caps don't do much.

neck rolls http://www.performancebodies.com/store/product.asp?dept%5Fid=1540&pf%5Fid=IMP74500010

HANS http://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/products/hans_intro.aspx

if they work in a situation like this, id feel pretty safe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nrHZOE2P0o

the HANS is probably overkill for the average woods buggy rider but definitely safer. not a bad idea for some of you who climb stuff that looks over-vertical.

Kybuggy1 wore his helmet all weekend. Even while trail riding. I didn't get to do much playing because of rain but when I did climb I wore a helmet. You really don't even notice it. Now I am going to find one that fits comfortably.

I discovered another good reason for a helmet this weekend, the hard way.
I got beaned just above my right temple with a rock from my son's buggy. My fault , I was being impatient and followed too close behind up a little baby hill when he wasnt even aware I was behind him. Hadnt even been in the woods an hour yet. Little small wound but it bled like a stuck hog, gave me a headache and a half. Could've been a lot worse. Thanks to the nice folks that helped my wife doctor me up!!(I think they were from Tennesse. Sorry ,cant remember y'alls names, I was a little out of it at the time. )

I wore my helmet for the rest of the weekend, and it didnt bother me a bit, and it was pretty hot this weekend, too.
We went on a short trail ride today and another stray rock hit my helmet right in the forehead area. And I was a good 30 yards or so back and he wasnt even gettin on his buggy very hard at all. Just a stray rock that travelled further than the rest for some reason. Had I not had my helmet on, I'd have been bleedin again!

Wear 'em. They are well worth the little bit of trouble and money.

This weekend we were at Hillsville where I saw Dean wearing a helmet. At first I was not sure what to think but after watching him climb "mad Dog" where the front end was staight up. I was a believer in the helmet thing. Things can go bad real fast and we never now when. I know there will be a helmet in my car the next time I ride. The only thing I'm not sure of is that it seems that when that helmet went on it was like a second set of b@!!s. So just have fun while being safe, Just my two cents.

Steve, I don't know about the second set of balls I would have tried it before. I think... Anyway when things got a little ugly at the top and for a moment thought I was about to have a really bad crash I was glad to have it on. Really guys you don't even notice it.

Glad to hear seeing Dean with one inspired you. It may look odd, when you first see someone in a buggy wearing a helmet. I know the first guy I saw wearing one was kinda "cross country" riding ( not on the trails) by himself, and I thought, "what the...?". The more times you see it, the more natural it looks. So for those who think its overkill, set an example to your buds, and wear one anyways. Even if you aint worried about yourself, you would not want to see their brains leaking out.
