Hey Gary i m trying to understand the geometry post's on samba, but i will be running 1.4's with a engle 110.The motor i have was previusly built and running, but the guy ran regular fuel and burnt a hole in the piston.I have the pushrods that came with the motor,if i loosen the adjuster almost all the way, keeping a few threads and then adjust it down until it touches the pushrod, and then open the valve to full lift, the adjuster should be parallel to the valve.Or could i put all them in on 1 side and adjust them to theproper clearence, what should i look for to be able to tell if they are the correct size.By the way Clearence should be around 3 to 6 thousands, right?????

The burnt hole could have been too lean? I run 1.4s with a 110 it works great for me.

Yeah I've seen people use them too.
Engle doesn't recommend them though, ramp angles on the lobes make it hard on cams and lifters at higher RPMS.

An FK 8 on 1:4s is pretty close to a W110 on 1:4s.
The FK 8 should actually have a little more up in the RPM band.

You can see the specs here take the net cam lift x the ratio rocker number, in this case 1.4.

Image

Sorry about the blurry picture, it's from from Engle's site..............

FK8 with 1:4
.382" lift at the cam.
.534" lift at the valve
298° advertised duration
258° duration @ .050"

W110 with 1:4
.392" lift at the cam
.548" lift at the valve (calculated, this number not on this page)
284° advertised duration
247° duration @ .050" lift

It's the lobe profile that makes the W110 less suitable for the 1:4 rockers.

Not dissing ony anybodys choice of cams but the FK8 is the cam of choice for most all the engines I build...... 8)

The guys run the 110 with the 1.4's because it is a pretty good combination of lift and a lower duration for a more crisp bottom end down really low. You can actually accomplish these same numbers (almost) by using the FK-43 and have less valve train wear. I agree Gary that the FK-8 is an all around great camshaft for the VW stroker but the duration is on the high side for 1200 rpm performance. It is really soggy down low in the powerband.

I won't totally disagree with that Roy.
But I've got a lot of those FK8s out there that work pretty well on the bottom.

Back to the 110, down low?.......
I don't think I've ever seen any videos of the guys running that combo that ain't got the pedal to the wood............

How's the engine coming James?

I agree that the videos usually do seem that way, but it is hard to tell for some reason in a lot of the videos that a lot of the times you have to "pedal" the buggy quite a bit to keep the front end low enough to not flip, but carry it a little, and try to keep your wheel speed up at the same time. In the D&K videos, it sounds like they are flat footed all the time, but they actually are in and out of it, and driving with the clutch , too. A lot of the climbs down there have just enough lip at the top that you gotta burp it to sit it down , then goose it to come on out the top. Thats where needing instant low end recovery and response comes in.

Always wondered myself why it sounds like one big blast on video? :?
Maybe just because it is so loud period and the echoing from down in them hollers. 8)

Cool, call if I can help in anyway.

Larry you know if we all run the same thing it would be a boring sport huh?........... 8)

I don't care if someone runs Lincoln Logs for a camshaft.
As long as it works I'm down wit it..........

For those of you that are too young to remember, Lincoln Logs is a toy we played with as kids.
Could build all kinds of toy houses, barns and cabins with those.
