I have a sedan trans AH1826109 with hydraulic clutch. At first it wasn't easy to put into first and would grind sometimes when put into reverse, second was easier than first. I adjusted the clutch and was ok for a while. Then it got hard to put in 1 or 2 and grinds when put in reverse. Now it won’t into first at all, but it will in all the other gears. I’ve adjusted the shifter still no first. I pulled the engine and the clutch is ok. The input shaft on trans has some movement 1/4in < > left & right about the same up & down but pops when moved up. Still can’t get it in first. I have done some jumps in it. Is time to up grade trans
Thanks
Tony

As far as the movement of the input shaft, that is normal. Being difficult to get into gear is hard to say. It could be several things. It could just be worn out and time to upgrade or change it out for something else. With out a complete disassembly and inspection it would be impossible to say what it might be.

I’ve got my trans to shift into all gears now. Hoping to put motor back on tomorrow and see how it does under power. At the KY hill climb the right side of my shifter box broke and it wouldn’t go in R,1,2. Anyway went I got home I welded it back in place (crooked) also the bar that my cutting brake is mounted on, is right over the shift rod coupler. Now I straighten the box and moving bar over to keep the coupler from hitting the bar.
Thanks
Tony

You can see where the shift rod coupler wore a groove in it
