They need to be torqued to atleast 200 ft lbs or they will come loose :eek:I use the one you hit with a hammer and have never had on come loose.

275+ you don't want them coming loose or the splines in your hubs will magically dissappear.The nuts on my swingaxle race car are over 500 but that is n aftermarket axle.

yea and it took us a 10 foot cheater pipe to get em loose so thats what we used to tighten em back up haha

I was told if you use the kind ya hit with the hammer it will damage the axle bearings.

I bought this torque multiplier from John at aircooled.net called a torquemeister. You can rent it from John for $15 if you return it within 21 days. I bought one for $65 years ago because it'll loosen and tighten axle nuts and gland nuts on the flywheel (6v & 12v) with little effort. It's a neat looking little tool that you use with your 1/2" torque wrench. It's a 9:1 multiplier meaning you set your torque wrench to 30ft/lbs and it'll tighten the nut to 270ft/lbs.

I think it's worth the money if you do most of the work on your own bug or buggy.
