Well i got my new motor 2.5 subaru. It has about 30 hp @ the crank about 260 to the wheels. I have a stage 2 kep plate and a kush-loc disc. I was wondering what you guys think should i step up to a stage 3 or go with the stage 2??
Hope to hear from you soon
Thanks
Nick

I would use the stage 3 aluminum kenedy pressure plate( 2 pounds less on the reciprocating weight). I had to walk out of an offroad place called jemison with the sun coming up because of a borderline clutch and that stage 2 is borderline in your application. IMHO

I like the kushloc. But I started using it because with the ej22 and stock 6 rib I needed to slip the clutch. I used it with the 542 gearing yesterday and am satisfied I have the right clutch disc. Now I want more power like you have. The thing about kushloc is you can slip it. With you power,,or better gearing slipping is not as necessary but the kushloc is still very good . We did this clutch disc thing a while back and there are a lot of preferences. But I have never heard a horror story about them like puck disc. It is a good starting place.

I would suggest NOT going with a stage 3 P/P. A 2.5L Subaru puts out way more than what a stock 6 rib would be expected to handle. You need a weak link, tranny, CV's or clutch, you pick it. A stage 3 P/P is a on or off clutch it will not last long in the woods. I run a stage 2 with an organic disc, I would rather swap out a clutch disc than CV's or a tranny any day. Know this the 2.5L Subaru is more than capable to take apart your drive line quick, fast and in a hurry.

im running a subie 2.5 with kep stage 2, kush-loc, 6 rib with weddle gear sets, 930 cv's. i thought about stage 3 but after talking with a few members of w.b. the feeling is that i'ed rather have the clutch slip a little rather than tear things up. i can alway's upgrade if needed. here's some info of of kenndy's web site. i can't wait to get out and try it.
STOCK
134 ft.lb.
KEP STAGE I
180 ft. lb.
Intended to handle any street VW and engines up to '75 Buick V6. Use stronger clutch for later Buicks.

KEP STAGE II
220 ft. lb.
Works good in well hopped up VW sand buggies and most other competition VW uses where the driver is determined to either win or break.

KEP STAGE III
260 ft. lb.
Will handle a low compression 305 CID Chevrolet V8 for street use.

KEP STAGE IV
300 ft. lb.
Used by some drag-racers who are running very large VW engines and nitrous and drop the hammer at 8000 RPM using an organic disc.

Thanks Bill for posting that reminder
That was more from not having extensions on my tree bars and a tree stump hidden in the leaves than Subie horse power.

What my point is when I first put in my Subie I installed 4 new type 4 CV's
Within 6 rides they were junk. They were not run over their angle limits, they just wore out. I'm now running 930 stuff with more than a dozen rides with no problems. I have a professionally built, all Weddle 6 rib, Thanks Roy, so I'm not too concerned about my trans. Since the Subie install I went with 23* 31x15.5x15 Firestone tires that have way more grip than Goodyears, so I can't hope for the tires to break traction. My weak link is still my clutch.

And by most of the guys I ride with in the woods! By far the best for what I use mine for.

Not to change engine subjects, but would a stage 3 PP and a stock disc be too much for a 6 rib with a 2276 and 4 ply firestones?Just curious what ya'll thought.

Just call the guy at kennedy adapters and tell him what the maximum torque output is on the engine. Torque not horsepower is what determines the clutch setup. I Just got my buggy running and took it out for a test drive with a stage 3 pressure plate and what appears to be a stock looking disk without the springs from kennedy. They picked the setup for me. I asked the guy at kennedy about the stage 2 and he said it was border line at 200ft pounds of torque. My engine is turbo charged and capable of 200hp and 200ft pounds of torque. However, yesterday during the drive I was at about 10psi of boost in 3rd gear, hit a bump lost traction and the left outer cv joint exploded when it regained traction. Didn't touch the clutch pedal.

I really would'nt have a clue what the tourqe rating would be on my motor.I would hope for at least 150 lbs..Does anyone have an estimate.I have a 2276 with all Cb components and Steet Eliminator heads and shooting for around 10 or 11.1 compression.I got a feeling a stage 3 PP will be a little hard on my tranny.
