Can I use a powerglide shifter on my automatic? Is 1st gear and 2 nd gear necessary? can I put a shifter in and adjust it to go- D -N -R -P with a lockout on park ALSO I CHECKED SEVERAL THREADS AND DID NOT FIND THIS QUESTION

wildpinto, you need a shifter out of a vanagan bus or audi 4000 or 5000 car the detint is the same on these shifters , also you don't need first , you need to be able to start off in second, never drive. If you start out in drive under power it will smoke the forward clutch pack. shifter should go from 2nd straight to reverse , no lock out. Hope this helps.

curt when do you use first? you can drive Rocks and his changes to second within 3 ft. His goes from second position straight to reverse with no lock accept park.

So I need to make my shifter execpt all gears. Rachet shifter or Dtent I have several of both or is it beter to build a straight rod to a custom shifter on himes? THANKS TONY

I use a ratchet I don't like it a shifter from a audi 4 or 5000 has the same Dtent a match but like i said it needs to go from 2nd strait to reverse
